Exactly what you need to know,

I studied at FIT in NY, and this was required reading for my first draping course. It seems that a careful read of this book alone could have taught me what I needed to know. It takes practice, but boy, if you want perfect results, follow this book to the letter and it will get you there!

This book contains allot of basic information on draping. The instructions are thorough and are acompanied by visuals, for extra comprehension. It also has a section dedicated to draping knits, a real plus! My understanding of the draping method, and therefore my skill, has improved on account of this book.

Draping for Fashion Design,

A great book for anyone with sewing, patternmaking, and clothing design experience. Not a novice book, however. You need to understand clothing design and patternmaking terminology to use this book. Well written, well illustrated.

This book is awesome!!! I'm 26, have sewn from patterns (and modified patterns) since I was 10. But with this book, I've found a more satisfying and immediate approach. I read reviews of several draping books, and this seemed the most straightforward. Since it was created specifically for an class, it if full of instructions and specifics. Most of the excercises show a bulleted list of steps, broken down simply, that you just have to jump in and do. If you try to read for comprehension, you'll never get it. Very hands on, and very to the point........
.......I mean, there's no BS from a grandma who taught herself to drape boxy quilted blazers, and then gives tips on where and how to bedazzle said blazers. Which is the approach that about 99% of sewing books take. I mean to say that it is timeless, ageless, and just what you need to feel confident in making whatever you imagine. Order this book! Buy a form and some supplies and show us what you've got!!!

Good, but it took some time as novice to understand.,
By Gennifer Bell "Fashion Design Student" (Hopewell, VA) - See all my reviews

I bought this book several years ago and couldn't use it then. I didn't have a basic understanding of some terms that were used; I was very lost. So, I put it on my bookshelf and started sewing using commercial patterns, and it helped. Last week I took the book off the shelf and understood what I was reading. I made my first basic bodice-front, in two days. I did it just by following the directions. I would suggest that anybody who wants to use this book, would first have basic understanding of clothing construction and it's terms. Even though it took a while, I would still suggest this book to any novice or design student who ambitious enough to learn the craft of draping.

Draping for Fashion Design (Hardcover) 1973 Edition,
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Draping for Fashion Design (Hardcover)
seems like that there are several versions of this book available. i bought the 1973 hardcover version, the one with white type on light green background on the cover. i don't know about newer versions of this book but this one is just painful. only every other step is confusingly illustrated ("figure 4-65/steps 3-7") with MINIATURE illustrations. you constantly have to try to find the right one for the part you are reading. this might have worked in the 70s but it is not working today. frustrated i tried to find something else and bought "the art of fashion draping, second edition, by connie amaden-crawford" and i'm thrilled!! EVERY step is clearly illustrated with big illustrations which you will be able to see easily from a distance while working on the dress form!

Review of Draping for FD LATEST EDITION by Jaffe and Relis,
By
This review is from: Draping for Fashion Design (5th Edition) (Paperback)
I was excited for the release of this book as I was hoping that it would clarify the parts of the earlier edition, released SEVEN years ago. Unfortunately the only things the authors have done is add in a chapter on children's apparel and clarify about three pictures. Besides that they use the same pics, the same words, the same descriptions. What a disappointment. They may as well have just released a separate book on children's apparel instead of pretending that they updated their earlier edition. Seven years and no improvements on the bulk of the text. Why bother? Super disappointed.

The book is great although when I was searching for it I was looking for a used book cheaper book. They were all listed as brand new and when I received mine, it had notes written in it!! Great easy book for draping with easy explanations just wished I got a used book price since it was really used!!!

Draping Text Book,
This review is from: Draping for Fashion Design (Paperback)
I took a draping class and my professor made us buy this book as our text book. It covers everything you need to know in Draping. The illustrations are a bit dull but the information is solid. Amazon was way cheaper than the book store
