Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Grade 3-6-- The 20th entry in the series. With his usual step-by-step approach, Ames invites readers to copy insects, spiders, and mollusks. As with the other books, no information about these animals is presented, not even their actual sizes, which may lead readers to perceive nature incorrectly. Ames's successful technique for introducing mimicry, which he states ``is prerequisite to creativity,'' has been adapted and expanded by others such as Don Bolognese, who adds information, perspective, and color to complete his step-by-step approach in The Way to Draw and Color Dinosaurs (Random, 1991). Beginning artists who find comfort in Ames's easily replicated technique will be attracted to this title. --Carole D. Fiore, S tate Library of Florida, Tallahassee

5.0 out of 5 stars My 5 year old loves it, February 11, 2005

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Draw 50 Creepy Crawlies (Paperback)
My 5 year old son, who shows no particular artistic talent, enjoyed this book because he loves bugs. Even though this book is designed for older kids, he did a fair job drawing the crawlies. I uploaded two of his best work above. He gets no adult help.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sketching fun for everyone, January 4, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I got this book for my Grandson who loves bugs and likes drawing. We each drew bugs from the book and were surprised how easy it was to draw something with such detail and be so realistic. It was a nice break from all the electronic toys!Draw 50 Creepy Crawlies

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for beginner ELLs, July 28, 2010
This review is from: Draw 50 Creepy Crawlies (Paperback)
This type of book is useful in teaching beginning ELLs because the language the teacher uses in talking about drawing is adjusted to the needs of the student. ELLs of all ages enjoy this book as a supplement to teaching a unit on Bugs and Tiny Animals.
