Average,
By Yoshi "Yoshi" (United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: How To Draw More Manga (Paperback)
This is pretty darn weird. When I bought this for my kid, five hours later he was complaining that the stuff was too complicated, and he's in fifth grade! I mean, Coope just draws a bunch of pictures and then says, this is how you draw a face, or this is how you draw the clothes. I would like it if it could actually help improve the skills. My son got pretty good at the faces, but the rest was horrible. Unless it is on sale, buy some other.
Disclaimer: I am not trying to insult her in any way, an I actually like some of it myself, but it needs more detail.

great for children in 4-6 grade,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: How To Draw More Manga (Paperback)
I got this book about two years ago and after a couple of years buying how to draw manga books and studying how to draw manga I got a lot better at it. If you are a begining artist this is the book you want to start with. It accually looks like manga un- like Chistopher Harts art and isn't that hard to work with. It is deffently good for a begginer and it does not look like a child started to scibble away at this book! How ever the How to draw anime and game charaters book does have good art it still isn't what a begginer should start with it is to complicated. That book is more for a advanced begginer. So any way this book is a must for a begginer who really wants to draw anime and manga correctly!

Great book for Young Manga Artists!,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: How To Draw More Manga (Paperback)
It is pretty obvious from the bright front cover and illustrations inside that this book is meant to be for young manga artists as oppose to those who have been drawing for a long time.
The explanations are clear and there are lots of helpful pictures and tips which are easy to follow, and, after a bit of good practise, produce some good results. I would much rather read this book than plough through all 30-something volumes of "How to Draw Manga!" I mean, when you are still on pocket money, this is a great priced book and useful to have at hand when drawing for advice and tips. The book is not really for exerienced manga artists, though it does cover the basics well. I noticed that most of th negative reviews come from people who have read other manga books as well, but each person's individual style often depends on the books they have read. Overall, I wouldn't bother to buy this book if you are already quite good at drawing manga, but if you are a beginner, this is a really helpful and handy guide.

It has a few things that are useful..,
This review is from: How To Draw More Manga (Paperback)
Before I even write this, I would like to say that I am 14 years old, and I'm using my mom's account to write a review.
I don't think this book is the best thing I've seen, but it's really directed toards a younger audience, and it's relatively cheap. However, if you have ever been told that you draw very well, you should skip this book. The best part of this book, in my opinion, is the section at the end on colored penciling, because I think that the author is quite talented at coloring with colored pencils, and her colored pencil tips were actually helpful. She also has some cute outfit ideas in her book, which are quite helpful for people who have trouble designing outfits. I really do think that the girl writing this may have been too much of beginier to publish a how to draw book; but someone under the age of 10 would probably like her style and find the simplicity of the book helpful. If you(or someone you may be getting it for) are over age 11 and consider yourself good at drawing manga, this book is most certianly NOT for you. Don't get it. It is for begginers, and you will be disapointed. P.S.: Anyone looking for a professional how to draw manga book, just search for "how to draw manga" and you will find a wide selection of beautiful (pricey) books.

For kids,
This review is from: How To Draw More Manga (Paperback)
this book is best for younge kids who whant to learn how to draw. i got this book when i was in 4th grade now im in 8th. this book was good when for when i was in 4th grade but as you get older you will need a high level book and this is not a high levl book. But i must say if i never had this book i wouldnt be the artst i am today. If you have never drawn in your life before this could be helpful on the basics. and i mean flat out basics. higher levl books have the same stuff but just a diffrent way of saying it and possibly more difficult to understand if you have never drawn in your life before. but as a child thisbook did inspire me when i was younger to start drawing. so if you want to inspire a kid then this is a good book for kids (6-13 [beginers]) you should use high levled books if your 14+ and beginer/not a beginer.

Not very good,
By Mythtress (UK) - See all my reviews

There's very little 'true' manga / anime in this book. There are plenty of cartoons in general, but none of these really relate to traditional, established manga work, and are of an unusual style.
Perhaps a better title would be 'How To Draw', and miss out the claim to be manga altogether.

EXCELENT!!! =D,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: How To Draw More Manga (Paperback)
I ordered this book pretty much blindly a year or so ago, and I loved it! it explaines everything step by step, from drawing eyes to faces and bodies. I would recomend it for higher elementary school and lower middle school people, basicly for beginers who don't know anything about manga. I have gotten several of my friends hooked, and suddently my drawings (including non-manga) are looking A-LOT better.

Not for the serious manga artist,

Get this book if you do not really want to draw manga, but rather want to know how to draw a strange-looking brand new style of comics i call coope-anga. In addition to bad art, this book tells quite a few lies. An example: Coope cliams that colored pencil are a good main source of color. While these are good to start out with, markers are the official media for original colored drawings.
However, this book deserves 2 stars instead of 1 because it has some accurate info on hands, feet, body proportions. I highly recommend How To Draw Manga Getting Started over this.

An Excellent Guide For Young Artists!,

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: How To Draw More Manga (Paperback)
This book in NO way deserves the bad feedback that it gets.
I think that people often forget that it's for young artists. Children. Of course 20 year olds can't learn from this book, but a 1 year old certainly can. The directions are friendly and simple and include helpful tools like drawing joints and hands, the artwork is colorful and easy to mimic, and it leaves the young artist with a sense of accomplishment when their art actually looks like the art in the book. So in short, it's not for older artists. But for children (or adults like myself who like to reference from time to time), it is the best art book that I have found. |
