Book Description

Quarto Book September 15, 2002
As this hands-on book demonstrates, anyone with a pencil, a sketchbook and the will to learn can achieve amazing drawings simply by focusing on the fundamentals.

Centered around a range of popular landscape subjects, including trees, seascapes and farmland, 20 practical drawing exercises lead artists through basic techniques while providing simple methods for mastering challenging landscape elements.

Each exercise breaks down a finished drawing into six simple steps that give artists the opportunity to follow the drawing step-by-step from beginning to end.

Exercises feature a range of drawing media, including charcoal, chalk, pastel, colored pencil, pen and ink and watercolor. In addition, artists will find ample tips, suggestions and explanations to help them avoid mistakes and build their skills quickly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great options for budding landscape artists, November 25, 2011
This review is from: Draw and Sketch - Landscapes (Quarto Book) (Paperback)
I had been trying to find my way in pen & ink & watercolour painting and needed some inspiration. Clearly if you can't at least sketch a bit you are going to struggle to paint anything half decent. This book gives you 16 great exercises that holds your hand during the sketching process and gives you variety of approaches to looking at landscape art. Different media and great subjects and none of it beyond anyone. I have done all the exercises in all the different media and it's changed everything for me. My personal interest is pen and ink lines with watercolour washes. It's just a gem of a book. Sadly I have to give my Library copy back, but fortunately I can now buy my own copy and will today.
