We have two kids, one (age 6) who loves to write and draw and who carries a pen and little writing pad around with her wherever she goes, and one (age 9) who loathes to even pick up a pencil or crayon. We have been using the first three books for approximately six months and they both LOVE them. At the behest of the children, I ordered books 4-8 from various merchants. Each book in the 8-book series has a variety of high-interest images. Each section is a two-page spread with the drawing instruction on one page, a completed scene on the next accompanied by four lines of large-print text below. The series begins with simple drawings and simple text in book one and gradually increases to more complex drawings and verbiage while maintaining the four-line format. However, I don't use the books in order. Each morning, I put all eight books on the table and the children (one boy, one girl) each choose from which book they will draw dependent upon their interest and their perceived ability. My 9-year-old has become noticeably more confident in his ability to draw and his penmanship has improved dramatically. And this was a boy who cried every time he had to write ANYTHING and never even liked to color. He doesn't cry about writing any more and he looks forward to drawing every morning now. This series has been a lovely way to help build confidence in our reluctant boy, who has even taped a few of his pictures on his wall(!) and has helped to hone the ability of our daughter who is just naturally more oriented toward writing and drawing. I can't recommend this series of books highly enough.

My elementary aged grandchild loves these books. She can practice her handwriting and learn to draw at the same time. It makes the lesson more fun. She is a hands on learner and anything that can enhance the process is very helpful to her.

We showed this book to my 5 year old this morning. Within minutes my 5 & 4 year old were both drawing a great picture of Lady Liberty. This book tends to exercise fine motor (drawing) skills, history (add a few books & it's a great lesson) and handwriting. I am really impressed with how easy this book makes drawing. I'm 32 and can't draw much more than a stick person. I was able to draw the images too! We will buy more of the series! It's really great!

This series is one of my all time favorite homeschool finds! Simple step by step drawing and copy work. My youngest son started book 1 in preschool. His drawings were adorable but pretty much unrecognizable. But, he persisted and now a year later is becoming quite the artist! Plus his handwriting is great now and I know that these helped him learn to read.
The best part about it is he LOVES to do it! It's a treat for him! Who knew handwriting could be fun!
We've got almost every book now. After he finishes a book, we pick out the best section or two and make his `own' book by gluing the drawings and copy-work onto construction paper and putting it all in a clear report folder. He's so proud!

Kids love these books. I tutor, and my students adore programmed drawings. This series is high quality, but I would recommend that students who find drawing difficult not skip volumes as they increase in difficulty sequentially.

Just super great books!

Even though none of my kids are artists, they could actually draw very well with it! Good for any age!
