Good overview,

The reason for the 4 stars instead of the 5, is because it's a nice overview book on the process designers go through when creating new designs, but it doesn't really go in depth in terms of sketching techniques or the "how to", in the way I expected it when looking at the title: "Drawing for Designers".I think this book is great for people new to the design process, first year students for example or people looking to make a career change and want to know more about industrial design, but people with more experience will be left wanting to see more.

Just to get it straight: this book doesnt teach you anything needed to draw or improve drawing techniques. It should rather be called "drawing in design". Not worth its money.

Not a useful book for aspiring designers.,

I wish I'd read the other reviews more closely. At first glance (Look Inside) this would appear to be a very useful and comprehensive book for aspiring design students. However, as others have stated, it offers little if any practical techniques or advice. Instead, it reads like the opening chapter of any intro level text book - providing an overview of the tools used, the job description for 'X' occupation within the industry, and what skills might be called upon - except it takes up the entire book. If you want a comprehensive overview of the role of drawings in the industrial design community but aren't looking for input on improving your own skills then this is the book for you. If you're looking for something more practical then I suggest you keep looking.

Not a how-to guide,
This review is from: Drawing for Designers (Paperback)
I expected from the title this would have a bit more "how-to", but there isn't really any. There is a history and overview of how designers have drawn ideas, from concept phase to technical illustrations, with plenty of small examples. It focuses more on computer drawing. There is no teaching of any drawing techniques or how to develop your concepts visually. This is what I was hoping for, but unfortunately it's not here. Even when they discuss techniques, briefly, it's more to explain the systems of perspectives used and no real advice for designers or design students.

This book shows ways things are drawn, sculpted, and rendered. It even shows a little about how some things are made. I recommend this book if you want to do in the Industrial Design area.

Got this as a text book for one of my daughter's Visual Communications classes, sophomore year in college. She really enjoys it and says that it is one that she will not sell back because it has many things that she will be able to refer back to. A good one for her professional library.
