Book Description

July 1, 2006
Like "Drawing Faeries: A Believer's Guide", this latest fairy book from Christopher Hart combines an enchanting adventure story with charming step-by-step drawings of every aspect of a fairy kingdom, from fetching fairy fashions and wings to the fairy larder, filled to the brim with delicious fairy cuisine for feast and famine. "Drawing Faeries: Keys to the Kingdom" begins with the captivating story of an artist who is visited in his dreams by a fairy who needs a favor desperately: an exquisite drawing of the Faery Kingdom's Royal Wedding to be given as a gift to the royal couple. In order to be able to capture all the minutia and majesty of the fairy world - the personalities of the royal bride and groom, the village of Faeire, the castle, the townsfolk - the dream fairy must relay to the artist all the magic, secret places in the Kingdom, all of which can only be entered by a special set of keys that can never be duplicated and which safeguard every part of the Kingdom. It discusses the growing worldwide popularity of the fairy genre. Like "Drawing Faeries: A Believer's Guide" 0-8230-1403-7, this title employs the winning combination of an enchanting narrative with solid drawing instruction. First title in this series has sold over 25,000 copies in less than a year and a half.

More About the Author

Thanks for taking a look at my books, and this "Author Bio." I'm a competent tennis player, who also enjoys playing computer chess while I'm watching TV at night (Hey, it prevents me from channel-surfing). I'm keenly interested in M-theory, although i have become skeptical of it of late, despite Brian's Green's full-body gushing... I love being with my family, and even my extremely evil dog, a Welsh Springer Spaniel named "Rusty." Oh, yes, he truly is that evil.

As for my work, I'm the author of many How-To-Draw books, published by Watson-Guptill,the art imprint of Random House. Thanks to a lot of the wonderful readers (and you know who you are!), I have sold over 3 million copies domestically, which have been translated into 20 languages worldwide.

I'm fortunate to also have had 26 of the Best-Selling art books in the country, according to Bookscan.(Bookscan is the publishing industry's rating system for books, which is owned by same company that does the Neislen TV ratings.)

I also have my own drawing show on the Comcast Network, called, "How To Draw Action Heroes With Chris Hart." It's on Comcast's "Activity TV." I hope you like my books, and find them a valuable adjunct to your own imagination.

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm a believer!!, July 12, 2006

This review is from: Drawing Faeries: Keys to the Kingdom (Paperback)
From the ingenious mind of Christopher Hart, comes another masterpiece in the world of faieies, "Drawing Faeries, Keys to The Kingdom". The premise is that the author was chosen by faeries to enter into their world because of his artistic talent; he is to draw a wedding portrait of the king's daughter and her new husband. The author, kindly allows us to enter into his world with these faeries. It is very easy to suspend disbelief as Christopher Hart tells his story with his usual deft touch. I was hooked the moment I saw a comic self-portrait of the author laboring in his studio, with steam coming from his coffee, extending into the air, and generating "steam fireworks". The book works on many levels: my children enjoyed it, I enjoyed it, and my 3 year-old niece enjoyed it, although I had to read it to her. The writing is clever, sunny, and always humorous. The drawings and explanations are wonderful, and the artistic comparisons between faerie and human, enlightening. He is, I believe, the foremost human expert on faeries and their lifestyle, and, in addition, he can teach you to draw too! I would highly recommend this book.

This book definitely has the keys successful faerie illustration. Endless entertainment, lots of enjoyable scenes to choose from and many fun challenges. As in a few other books I own by Hart, the examples are simple, fun and produce great results. The informative background side by side the technique explanation and the easy steps to follow, makes Faerie drawing simple and exciting. Anyone with a soft corner for faeries and like of a pencil should own this book. Great companion for the coming summer

If you have the first book, "Drawing Faeries, A Believer's Guide" then you need to have this one too. The drawings and instruction, not to mention the story line, are just as fine as they are in the first book. I currently have three of Mr. Hart's books in my drawing library, (with more on the way!) I am so thrilled with the results I am getting from them. Mr. Hart makes it remarkably easy to draw these wonderful characters and thereby really encourages and inspires you to do more drawings and start to explore other mediums. Until recently I had never thought of using markers, pencils being my preferred medium, but I am so excited and inspired by Mr. Hart's books, I am going to start! The best thing about this book is it doesn't matter who it's for, you or your kids. Everyone can learn something from this book.
