Rendering techniques
This book takes you through the basic giving examples of critiques as why something doesn't quite look right and thereby teaching your eye what to look for when rendering, gradually giving harder examples. I used this book to start drawing.

one approach to drawing
This presents an interesting concept for teaching drawing, but it is not comprehensive. If you are looking for that kind of a book this is not the one for you.

Love this book. Perfect for a quick review of the basics and as a good intro to drawing. I wish I had had this book years ago when I started taking fine arts classes at the local university.
