5.0 out of 5 stars best I have ever read regarding drawing fundamentals, January 30, 1998

This review is from: Drawing Sharp Focus Still Lifes (Hardcover)
I have been a professional drawing instructor for over fifteen years and have found this book to be one of the very best for assisting students in grasping the concept of form construction, rendering objects correctly in linear perspective, seeing and building values, and gaining an appreciation of the value of striving for technical skills. Having been educated in an era in which the theory was not to teach "technique" for fear it would stifle a student's creativity (and realizing that this approach was bogus), I can honestly say that Mr. Zappalorti has done his students a great service if his teaching methods are reflected in this text. My sincere congratulation and thanks for a marvelous teaching resource!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent instruction of the basics., January 8, 2007

There are at least two approaches to drawing: "freeform" and "precision drawing". This is an excellent book that effectively explains the basics of precision drawing step by step. He tells how to use the pencil as a tool to find angles, explains perspective, eye level, horizon lines, etc and has excellent illustrations to go along with it. He has exercises for each point he teaches and has photos of each step of the exercise. It's not a fun book to "look" at - to use it, you must take your time and sit down and read the small print slowly. But once you do, you find that this is an excellent book.

5.0 out of 5 stars For the serious artist, June 23, 2009

Whether you're a beginner or someone who's been drawing for years, you will learn something from this book. It goes into perspective, shape, proportion, tone and texture. There are many examples to lead the serious artist on a path toward rendering still lifes in a realistic manner. This is quite simply one of the best five overall, and the best on still life and rendering in pencil.

5.0 out of 5 stars Review of Drawing Sharp Focus Still Lifes, September 8, 2005
This review is from: Drawing Sharp Focus Still Lifes (Hardcover)
This is a great book for the beginning artist. I was taking an 8-week intro art class when I found this book in the library. When I showed it to my art teacher, and she liked it, I knew I had to buy it.
