Book Description

When Detective Jason Morgan is tasked with keeping a local restaurant owner safe as part of a make-or-break case, he rises to the challenge. The job is his first priority, and he owes it to the memory of his father, a detective killed in the line of duty, to do it at any cost. But Jason never expected Serenity Gallagher to be so beautiful, so serious...or so tough to protect.

Serenity has moved from place to place at the whim of her capricious mother all her life. The last thing she wants is to leave the diner she finally calls home, even if it means being stuck with a sexy blue-eyed detective. But she’s the only witness to a horrible crime, and the man behind it wants her very, very dead. Going into protective custody means survival, no matter how much Serenity hates hiding.

As Jason and Serenity bide their time together, they are shocked to discover they have much more in common than the surface reveals. But keeping her safe is Jason’s number one priority, no matter how much he’s drawn in by the woman beneath the witness, and Serenity’s past makes it difficult to trust. As the stakes get higher and the spark burns hotter, can Jason and Serenity draw the line?

About the Author:
Kimberly Kincaid writes contemporary romance that splits the difference between sexy and sweet. When she's not sitting cross-legged in an ancient desk chair known as "The Pleather Bomber", she can be found practicing obscene amounts of yoga, whipping up anything from enchiladas to éclairs in her kitchen, or curled up with her nose in a book. Kimberly is a 2011 RWA Golden Heart® finalist who lives (and writes!) by the mantra that food is love. She is thrilled to have collaborated on a Christmas anthology with Donna Kauffman and Kate Angell, titled The Sugar Cookie Sweetheart Swap, to kick off her Pine Mountain foodie series with Kensington this October. Her first full-length novel, Turn Up the Heat, will follow in March 2014. Kimberly resides in northern Virginia with her wildly patient husband and their three daughters. 5.0 out of 5 stars My HUSBAND loves this book. May 8, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
No, he didn't read it, but because of this book he's getting apple turnovers and sex. He gives it a five star, two thumb, big grin review. This was a great follow up to Kimberly's first book, Love on the Line, with Jason (twin brother to LOTL's lead Violet) playing the role of protector. He's the hot cop charged with protecting Serenity, owner of his favorite local restaurant, from a murderer out on bail. For a novella, it's jam packed with drama, action, steamy sex, and some mouth watering kitchen action - something for which Kimberly Kincaid is quickly earning a reputation. This novella proves that you can take the chef out of the kitchen, but you definitely can NOT take the sex out of the chef.

And this is why she gets paid to write and I do not.

4.0 out of 5 stars fast-paced, suspenseful and super-sexy May 9, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Yes, "Drawing the Line" had me salivating, and not just because of the apple turnovers. Okay, well, those had me drooling, too, but mainly it was hunky hero Jason who had me mesmerized. (And let's not forget his delicious cop partner Noah from "Love on the Line", the first novella in the series--so good to see him again!) Very powerful emotional and situational conflict in this story. Neither Serenity nor Jason is thrilled about being holed up together after Jason is tasked to keep Serenity in protective custody. She has a diner to run--a diner that means everything to her--and he has a bad guy to catch. But while he's protecting Serenity from a vicious killer, who will make sure Jason doesn't cross the line from duty to desire? Fast-paced, suspenseful and super-sexy--another winner from author Kimberly Kincaid. She's on a roll! (And yeah, I admit it, that just made me think of cinnamon rolls. Maybe she'll share that recipe next?)

4.0 out of 5 stars Detective McHot-Hot? April 28, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This story starts on page one with a bloody body on the floor! Serenity Gallagher is coming to her diner to work the morning shift . She is the owner/chef of Mac's. Walking into the kitchen she finds her cook sprawled on the floor, unconscious and bleeding. She immediately dials 911, and the dispatcher sends police and EMT's strongly advising Serenity to leave the premises immediately till the scene is secure. Right away we learn that Serenity is not much of a believer in orders. Next thing she knows, a huge man with a knife and a very apparent tattoo barrels into her, and it's lights out.

Waking up in the ER with a head injury, and finding out her cook is in surgery is very disturbing, but, equally disturbing is when the homicide detective comes to interview her, she is in nothing but her very attractive underwear! Not to mention he is "Detective McHot-Hot". He is actually Jason Morgan, partner of Noah Blackwell. We met Noah and his now girlfriend Violet in Ms. Kincaid first novel Love on the Line. Jason is Violet's brother.
Serenity is sure she can identify her attacker, and insists on being taken to see mug shots! Picking out her attacker, she yells in triumph, only to see Jason's face go white. She has picked out the mug shot of a very very bad man!

This short novel has so much action, food, and steam you can't put it down! Both Serenity and Jason try very hard to fight their attraction, but living in a safe house, just the two of them? HOT.

I so enjoyed this story, it can stand on it's own, but is a great follow up to Love On the Line. It's witty, suspenseful, and there is even a recipe! I highly recommend this novel. Can't wait to see what's next from Ms. Kincaid.

5.0 out of 5 stars Delightful novella! September 10, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This 115 page novella follows the novella LOVE ON THE LINE. This one centers around Jason Morgan, a detective and brother of Violet Morgan. Jason is also the detective partner of Noah Blackwell. [Noah and Violet were the main characters in the first in the series, LOVE ON THE LINE.]

This novella is as delightful as the first one was. It's relatively short and in this day of so many authors padding their novels with redundancy and way too much rambling to fill pages, it was refreshing! Yes, you know where the plot will end up, but that's what romance is about as a genre.

What I did find refreshing about Jason and Serenity was the lack of "hiding secrets" ploy of some authors to drag out their story lines ad nauseum. In this novella, you get two different people who are, above all else, honorable human beings.

Ms Kincaid provided me with two novellas that were well written and which provided me with a delightful couple of hours of good reading during a nasty storm. I will look for more books by this talented author.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great new story from Kim Kincaid!! April 30, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
Le sigh. Another winner from Kimberly Kincaid. As usual, I'm not bothering with a recap because everyone else is going to do it and the blurb does it best so I'll just jump in with what I liked:

Let's start with Serenity. Love her. She feels so real and her job at Mac's doesn't read like something Kincaid just threw in, it's an integral part of who she is and how she operates. I loved how creating food for people was sometimes a way for her to comfort them, sometimes a way for her to get control, and sometimes a way for her to comfort herself. Kincaid didn't make her enjoy cooking because she needed a detail for her heroine. Serenity cooks because it's who she is.

Then there's Jason who's trying to do the right thing. I love how he's genuinely conflicted about his attraction to Serenity, how his way of dealing with the situation is to bring forward all his training and experience to protect them. Again, Kincaid didn't just make him a cop because her hero needed a job. He's a cop because that's how he's wired.

All in all, a great, fun read. Would highly recommend it :)
