I wish the star rating had negative numbers, Kiddo.,

Wow. I'd be hard pressed to express precisely how annoying this book was to read. This didn't inspire even the tiniest bit of a supernaturally scary moment for me, because the writing itself was so frightening.
Conversations between characters were particularly hair-raising. If I read "Well, Kiddo", "Well, Beth", "Well, Edd" one more time, I might have started screaming right out loud. And of course there was the ever-present "Dude!". Thank goodness little Emily couldn't really participate in conversations..... I was also very unnerved and alarmed by the idea that someone could witness a small child being hurt, and discourage the parents from seeking medical attention. If this whole "pressing crib" scenario was made up for the book, it was in very poor taste; if it wasn't made up, then not seeking medical attention for the child is the truly scary bit, rather than the alleged attacking entity. This book has the dubious honor of being the first one, (in my entire life), that I have ever tossed in to the trash rather than trying to donate to a book sale or library. If this person sees fit to have further writing episodes, (or fits, as the case may be), I plan on staying as far away as possible. This book should be used in composition classes as an example of how not to write.

Chronicles of an Investigator,
By Goliath (Florida, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Dread and the Dead Filled the Dunnam House (Paperback)
This book takes you by the hand and leads the reader through a real case. The book chronicles events as they happened and does not intend to scare the wits out of the reader. The Author shows, step by step, things an investigator needs to do. Background research, history of the area, exhaust all probable explanations and then look for more explanations. This is not just an ordinary ghost story but a plunge into the world of the investigator. If you can gather the courage to overlook some spelling errors then this is the book for you.

This is another story I first saw on the discovery channel on a show called a haunting. the book is very good. This story will give you the creeps because it is a true story of a real haunted house.
A lot of strange sounds can be heard in this house that have never been explained to this day. I am glad the family got out. this book will keep you up at night reading good job Dusty!

Very scary story, even if self-edited,
By Dee White "lesdroits" (Charlottesville, VA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Dread and the Dead Filled the Dunnam House (Paperback)
Okay, this book is not slickly written. In fact, it has a certain amateurish tone, as in,where's an editor. But it WAS written by an amateur who, for reasons she does not state, shunned the normal route via publishers and editors. The result-- a damn scary story told in a very non-professionally written piece. Compare with House of Secrets and Whispers or whatever -- very professionally written, but not a scary or really even very interesting moment in the whole book. Of the two, and given my interest, I'd take Dread and the Dead anyday. My only concern--this is so authentic sounding and so scary, that I legitimately wonder why the house is still allowed to stand and have inhabitants--it should be declared a superfund site or something and taken off the market. Wish there was something about this in the book.

My names Joe and I am the founder of DIEPART or the Des Moines Iowa Extreme Paranormal Advanced Research Team www diepart com
I was very impressed with his book. I recommend this book to all of my team members so they can understand what a genuine real supernatural haunting looks and feels and smells like! ) HANDS DOWN THIS BOOK IS THE BEST EXAMPLE I KNOW OF PARANORMAL INVESTIGATORS UP TO THERE EYE BROWSE IN PARANORMAL PHENOMENON! The authors account of this soon to be famous paranormal case makes this book a true handbook for paranormal investigators.. I insist all my team members reads this book especially my leads. This book hands down defines for anyone who reads it what a real modern.. haunting looks and feels like with what I have come to understand through our cases as well.. ( Dusty has put into words an amazing account of a family and a paranormal group trying to understand and put up with unseen forces at work here to terrorise all who enter this home and beyond.. WATCH OUT FOR THE GHOSTIES!,
By
This review is from: Dread and the Dead Filled the Dunnam House (Paperback)
I have just read this book and I thought it was pretty good. There was always something happening and it was
apparently a very active house. I do wish Dusty had included a picture of the ghost near the crib. I don't think the one on the cover is it. The book read just as if Dusty was there talking to you about it and I liked that. I would definitely recommend this book and as far as the people that gave the bad reviews which really stemmed on grammar. I myself don't read a book to grade the grammar on each page. If it's a good book, who cares if a few words aren't correct.

This book was scary. The Discovery Channel also did it on "A Haunting". I recommend it to those who like the real ghost stories.

If you do paranormal investigations, this is an awesome look into how a Florida group handles thier research and investigation. If you aren't a paranormal investigator, then you will have shivers down your spine as you read this one!

Love Dusty, Love her book.,
By
This review is from: Dread and the Dead Filled the Dunnam House (Paperback)
I bought this book from the author herself while taking a ghost tour at one of Daytona Beach's cemeteries. Dusty is an immensely interesting person, and her book was also. I am honored to own a signed copy bought out of the trunk of her car. The book is truly terrifying when you hear the author's commentary from their own lips while they stand in front of you at midnight.
A truly horrifying tale with equally scary pictures. I read it in our hotel room, and it sent shivers down my spine. If you love the paranormal, and want to read a book that is real, not literary mumbo-jumbo, then this is for you. |
