4.0 out of 5 stars A Useful Classic., January 24, 2008
This review is from: The Isle of Dread (D&D Fantasy Roleplaying, Expert Set, Module X1, Book+Map(s) (Paperback)
This isn't an adventure in the traditional senese, with a plot or ongoing saga. It is an island area resource with some planned encounters. giant Spiders, Dinosaurs, Pirates and Smugglers. it is similar to Keep on the Borderland as it has no distinct plot, and is more of a regional guide than adventure. Considering the number of area resource books to come out recentlly, it seems things have gone full circle.

If you are in need of am island map to put your adventure on, you need not look any further than this module. If you're looking for an adventure though, be reminded that this was written for 1st edition Dungeons and Dragons (Not AD&D 1st edition) and will need some conversion.

5.0 out of 5 stars The reason you started gaming, November 11, 2009
This review is from: The Isle of Dread (D&D Fantasy Roleplaying, Expert Set, Module X1, Book+Map(s) (Paperback)
What - this thing is on Amazon!!! Wow is all I can say - I actually have this module. Admittedly it is in the bottom of a musty box in a garage about 1500 kilometres away, but darn it all that still counts!

A brilliant adventure especially for novice players but also a valuable setting for those who are more experienced (pardon the pun). The setting is very much a `lost world' scenario and apart from a core adventure there are of course a range of spin off adventures and hooks available and this particular setting is a very good salve for if your game has been focusing too much on urban adventures. Not to mention the sheer guilty pleasure of taking on dinosaurs. Time for your fighters to `man up' and cop some serious damage while your magic users better have access to some meaty spells to bring down some of these dino-denizens. The fact that the whole place is set on an island in the middle of a massive amount of water also means that there are options to try out your naval warfare skills.

A very versatile basis upon which to really have some fun which is the reason you picked up a D20 in the first place, isn't it...
