Biography

Journey was formed by Santana manager Walter “Herbie” Herbert in 1973 and found most success in the 70s with classic rock tracks including “Don’t Stop Believing”, “Separate Ways”, “Faithfully” and “Open Arms”.

Their first albums, Journey, Look Into the Future and Next, were notable for their excellent musicianship but failed to secure the success they were hoping for. So Journey made an effort to… Read more in Amazon's Journey Store

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Unique Recording - Symphony Quality, September 14, 2005
This review is from: Dream After Dream (Audio CD)
A very different version of Journey music. If you like classical or Symphonic music you will love this along with Steve Perry's and Greg Rollie's unique exquisite voice qualities. It makes me want to see the movie that this Soundtrack was developed for in 1980. Beautiful listening experience!

3.0 out of 5 stars Unique Journey, September 28, 2006
By sealchan (Oregon, United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Dream After Dream (Audio CD)
This album represents Journey's efforts at writing a soundtrack. Overall the album invokes the dreamy adolescent love mood that the movie shots from the inside sleeve suggest are appropriate. The orchestrations, apparently written by Journey, are...okay. They are emotive and powerful in that sense, but a bit simple suggesting no member of Journey was sophisticated orchestrally.

1. Destiny: This song goes from quiet to powerful and back making it interesting and progressive in style. Vocals by Steve Perry

2. Snow Theme: A quieter instrumental, moody keyboard work by Ross Valory

3. Sandcastles: Another mellower track with Steve Perry vocals

4. A Few Coins: A 42 second transitional music thought

5. Moon Theme: A deceptively off kilter guitar line makes this one interesting

6. When The Love Has Gone: A strong bluesy performance from Neal Schon

7. Festival Dance: Another 59 second transitional piece with an interesting guitar effect at the end

8. The Rape: A mainly orchestral song that simply provides mood for some scene in the movie no doubt

9. Little Girl: Good pop song with great Steve Perry vocals

This album is probably best considered as a collectible for Journey fans. It might interest some intrigued by the thought of Journey with an orchestra, but for the knowledgable progressive rocker most any other orchestra and band production will be more rewarding.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best of the Journey Albums, June 9, 2005

This review is from: Dream After Dream (Audio CD)
It's a terrible shame this one is so obscure, and that it's only available as a Japanese import. I remember buying the half-speed mastered LP back in 1985, (and paying almost $100 for it) being the huge Journey fan I was. I had to have ALL of them. This CD will not disappoint, in fact "Little Girl" is likely one of the best songs Journey ever recorded. I don't know how to describe it, but I do know that I had to have the CD when it was made available, and that I've enjoyed this particular work for over 20 years.

This CD is very different from most Journey music. The songs are very melodic, mixed with Steve Perry's voice. I would definatley recommend this CD to any Journey or Perry fans.
