3.0 out of 5 stars story fell apart in the middle
I have read at least a few others of Laura Lee Ghurke's novels, and my general impression is that she either writes a great story (i.e. Conor's Way) or her plot falls apart. In this novel, the latter is clearly the case. The delicious romantic tension building up in the beginning just fizzles away. Secondary characters introduced late in the novel take up additional...

Words cannot explain how much this book blew me away. I bought this book because I'd read Gurhke's Avon releases, and while I wasn't 100% bowled over by them, I enjoyed the author's writing. To Dream Again made me a believer in LLG. TDA is no ordinary Victorian set historical romance--it's so much more. From the well-drawn villan, to the heartbreaking and emotional romance between Mara and Nathaniel, to the vividly drawn characterizations of the protagonists, and the wonderful conclusion to the novel, To Dream Again was superb. I would recommend that you scour any bookstore you can to find a copy of this sweet, gritty, sensual and emotional historical romance if you can. I only more romances were like this book!

Great story and characters. I loved that it was unique. I particularly liked that their love developed over time and they did not just fall into bed with each other. Well worth the price. I would have paid more.

5.0 out of 5 stars WONDERFUL!, June 6, 2007

This review is from: To Dream Again (Harper Monogram) (Paperback)
England 1889

TO DREAM AGAIN is a wonderful story of two totally opposite souls coming together to find their dreams.

Beautiful widow Mara Elliot is an unconventional woman who has lost everything worthwhile in life and has taken life's hard knocks the only way she knows how...with a stiff upper lip and a drive to be self sufficient. Her dream chasing husband left her with only a small London factory that's only moments away from being foreclosed upon.

Handsome Nathaniel Chase is a free spirited man with his own dreams to succeed with his innovative toy-making ideas and Mara's factory is the perfect place to make his dreams come true. Nathaniel was Mara's last chance of security she'd worked so hard to gain and reluctantly she was forced to become business partners with the optimistic and unconventional Nathaniel. What Mara didn't expect was kindling of hopes, dreams and passion this man soon brought to her life and Nathaniel soon found he couldn't live without Mara.

Very Enjoyable read!

I have read at least a few others of Laura Lee Ghurke's novels, and my general impression is that she either writes a great story (i.e. Conor's Way) or her plot falls apart. In this novel, the latter is clearly the case. The delicious romantic tension building up in the beginning just fizzles away. Secondary characters introduced late in the novel take up additional unecessary subplots, which detract from the interaction of our main protagonists. The villain was written just a little too one-dimensional. All in all, a good premise, but delivery falls short at the end.

Very disappointing. Was eager to read this book after reading and thoroughly enjoying Conor s Way. Loved character Nathional and story line had a lot of `promise. but female lead spoiled it all.. am unable to articulate what Nathanial saw in her. ugh! Could not read every page. Would not recommend.
