This review is from: Dream Arcade (Audio CD)
Dream Arcade is a fantastic album. It's very much back to basics, but never sounds formulaic or cliche. In fact, it sounds very inspired. Some Railway Children fans may long for the slick production of Native Place, but Dream Arcade has its own resonance which makes it transcend previous RC albums. Gary Newby sounds more confident than ever as a vocalist, and he's backed up by a more supple rhythm section than from the original lineup. "Let it go" provides the perfect upbeat, rock-oriented opening track. It's the more acoustic-driven songs, however, that have the biggest impact, such as the title track "Dream arcade", "Wake the dreamer" and "These things she does".
