By Capstone Careers (Blacksburg, VA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Your Dream Career For Dummies (Paperback)
I've read many books on the subject of changing careers and have found this to be the most comprehensive. It not only includes a thorough self-assessment section, but includes a list of careers with resources for further information. Everything is presented in logical, easy to follow steps and categories. I am teaching career exploration class and will suggest each participant get this book.

A Must Read for Career Change,
By

This review is from: Your Dream Career For Dummies (Paperback)
This was an excellent book, probably the best I've read on the subject. Written to be easily interpreted it precisely guides the reader through each process until the dream career(s) is uncovered. I have spoken to the author who is now concentrating her time on green careers and providing personal career counseling as well. This book makes one think and leaves no stone unturned. It confirmed my thoughts on what a dream job would be for me. It encourages one to think out of the box and nothing is off limits however, it also is realistic in addressing the potential pitfalls of certain career decisions. This book approaches the subject in a very analytical and efficient manner without being stuffy or mundane. It is laid out neatly, logically and takes the reader through the entire process in a very orderly manner.

A Superbly Crafted Career Book,
This review is from: Your Dream Career For Dummies (For Dummies (Career/Education)) (Paperback)
This is an exceptionally well structured, lucid and methodical book, guiding the reader from a process of self-discovery and exploration of personal passions right through to practical steps on bringing the dream career to life. It even guides the reader on what career choices may be available to him or her. Carol McClelland is a stimulating, logical and practical authority on career change.

Excellent Guide - not just for "Dummies",
By Jane Lane (NJ) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Your Dream Career For Dummies (Paperback)
This book helped me identify interests and figure out where to focus.
Don't let the "for Dummies" title dissuade you from choosing this book. This is the best career book/workbook that I have found. It really helps you identify your interests (along with the other usually metioned career aspects such as values and skills) in excercises that are broken down small enough not to be intimidating or overwhelming. The excercises then build on each other in a useful, practical way. What's more, the book then goes on to list actual jobs by category for you to think about. This is again, much more managable and helpful than having to go explore jobs on-line where the information and options are too overwhelming. |
