Fantasies of domination,
By A Customer
This review is from: Dream of Cecilia (Paperback)
In this explicit erotic comic, Cecilia is a beautiful blonde who finds herself perpetually shocked, shocked at the handling given to her by the residents of two fantasy worlds--the aristocrats and savages of a medieval kingdom, and a perverse husband who enlists her in modern-day sex games. While this is definitely an S&M fantasy, it probably would appeal to many people who usually like more their erotica more vanilla--Cecilia is never really hurt, and the dream-within-a-dream structure emphasizes that all of her adventures are just fantasies. One is definitely meant to identify with the heroine more than with her abusers. If you like this sort of thing, or sometimes wonder if you might, this is definitely worth checking out: The art is well-done and fairly realistic, and the settings and situations show consistent imagination.

High quality adult art,

This review is from: Dream of Cecilia (Paperback)
If you are into erotic graphic novels, von Gotha is bound to be one of your favorites. His illustrations are beautifully realistic and the action is fast and furious. Dreams of Cecilia is a series of vignettes about a beautiful young woman who daydreams herself from erotic fantasy to erotic fantasy where she is captured and forced to service multiple men. In so doing, Cecilia is forced to recognize and accept her innermost sexual desires.Although the book has a very strong Domination & Submission storyline, there are relatively few depictions of S&M leather gear or complex bondage equipment. If you want more bondage, try Michael Manning. Dreams of Cecilia focuses more on portraying beautiful people in a series of hardcore sexual scenes. The illustration is better quality than Kevin Taylor but the girls are more passive. Overall, this is likely to interest your girlfriend a little more than many of the other "dirty" comics.

Interesting little book.,
This review is from: Dream of Cecilia (Paperback)
Full-Colored adult graphic novel.Strange novel with no words, just pictures until the very end. There are two stories. The first story involves a woman back in colonial times who is found on the side of the road nearly nude, attacked by passers by (or she is their slave), freed/captured by indians, the woman escapes the indians and is recaptured by the white fellows . . . During this time the woman dreams of another existence, this one set in the modern world. The second story involves a woman in the "modern" time period who unexpectedly finds herself a sex slave. Both women dream of each other, it would seem. Though not everything is as it seems. .. The drawing is quite good, nothing appears to be censored. Much bondage, whipping, punishment, sexual activity, and dominance. The plot is driven along by the pictures and is interesting enough in its method. Overall, an odd, yet good "novel."

Gotha makes an interesting storytelling choice with Dream of Cecilia,

I've been quite a fan of Erich von Gotha's work since I first came across The Trouble with Janice. Gotha's sepia-toned and neo-victorian style of artwork gives his heavily sexualized stories a nice look. Gotha's stories and artwork primarily deals with the sexual fetish of bondage and domination. At times he'll delve into the more esoteric realm of sadomasochism, but it's in B&D and sexual slavery that he's mostly known for. With The Dream of Cecilia, Gotha takes an interesting and bold choice in the telling of his story. The entire book is told from two point of views. One viewpoint is from the eyes of a mademoiselle of pre-Victorian era. The other being a modern woman of the 20th-century. Both dream of each other. Their interconnecting dreams are usually of sexual situations forced upon each other by the men and women who seek to dominate them. The interesting part of the storytelling are not through their point of views, but through Gotha's choice to not use any dialogue except right at the very end. He's taken the bold action to let his beautiful artwork and the composition of each page's panels to tell the story. Even without dialogue the reader can easily understand the situations and story being told. Gotha's choice even puts the question of which woman is real and which is a dream. Even the ending of the story doesn't answer this question but let's it stay unanswered and for the reader to make up their own mind. The Dream of Cecilia is a beautifully drawn and composed erotic graphic novel full of highly sexually-charged situations and moments. Erich von Gotha's daring and bold choice to use not a whit of dialogue until the very end to tell this story makes for a very interesting "read". This book is definitely not for everyone, but for those who have an open mind and a mature handle of artwork of a highly sexual nature then I would recommend this book without reservations.
