This is a collection of songs that 1940s Hollywood Pin Up girl, Betty Grable, and her husband, bandleader, Harry James performed together in the 40s & 50s. Betty Grable was not allowed to record under her own name, by her contract with 20th Century Fox, whom she remained with until the mid 50s. The only "commercial" recording she and Harry made together was the song "I Can't Begin To Tell You" recorded in 1945 under Grable's pseudonym Ruth Hagg. (Ruth was her middle name and Hagg was Harry's mother's maiden name.) The other tracks on this CD come from appearances they made together in various shows such as Shower of Stars in 1954, a Bing Crosby show in 1949 and a medley on the Perry Como show in 1959. Many of the songs on this CD have been released on various vinyl releases, many of which were released only in the U.K. and can be hard-to-come by. Despite the fact that the recordings are old and that the sources may be iffy, the mastering on this CD is fine. Tracks 11 through 21 do not feature Miss Grable, and comes from a 1944 CBS production. The song stylings of Kitty Kallen and Buddy DiVito are featured here along with Harry James and his Orchestra. All in all, this is an excellent collection of songs for fans of Harry James or Betty Grable. It's nice to have these songs gathered together on a CD issue.
