I bought this almost six months ago and was very happy with it for about three months. It blocks the light almost completely (a little creeps in on each side of my nose as I have a rather sharp nose -- if yours is not quite so sharp this mask will likely block the light completely), doesn't impede your eyelids/lashes during REM sleep, and is soft and lightweight. Either the material didn't block out the light or they didn't fit close enough and stay in place well enough to keep the light out. Until now, I'm thankful to say. The Sweet Dreams Sleep Mask fits perfectly without being confining. It's comfortable, light weight and cool and it's even contoured so that you can open your eyes unabstructed which allows for better REM sleep I'm told. I love it and I'd recommend it to anyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful, comfortable eye shades for indoors, April 9, 2006

These were better than the Bucky eye shades I also purchased, with the exception if you are sleeping outside. The Bucky's did keep out more sun-light but indoors I couldn't tell a difference. For comfort and relaxation while sleeping indoors the Sweet Dreams was better. It was also much cheaper ($11.79 w/shipping to Bucky $31.34 w/shipping). I found the Bucky's still applied a little pressure on my eyes where the Sweet Dreams mask did not. The Sweet Dreams also stayed on better when I layed on my side.

4.0 out of 5 stars sleep well, February 23, 2006
This review is from: Dream Essentials Sweet Dreams Contoured Sleep Mask with Earplugs and Carry Pouch, Black (Misc.)
This mask does a great job for the price. It's comfy--it connects behind the head with a soft velcro strap. The convex shape means that it doesn't press against your eyes when they're closed. It does a pretty good job of blocking out light, letting only a little in around the bridge of the nose, but you can't tell with your eyes closed. Folds up nicely into the neat carrying case.

I would have easily given this product five stars if I would have rated it within the first three months of use.

However, the bottom edge, particularly near the nose, has frayed revealing two layers of fabric surrounding one of foam. Also, the band has lost most of its elasticity and no longer holds the mask tightly enough against my face.

It doesn't look like it's going to last much longer.

3.0 out of 5 stars very comfortable but made for small noses, November 11, 2008
This review is from: Dream Essentials Sweet Dreams Contoured Sleep Mask with Earplugs and Carry Pouch, Black (Misc.)
This is a very comfortable mask and it never falls off or slides down when I use it. And I am a side sleeper who tosses and turns a lot. I have used other more cheaply made masks that always come off at some point during my tossing and turning. The strap closes with velcro and it works perfectly allowing me to apply just the right amount of pressure on the headband to hold the mask securely but comfortably. The pouches for your eyes are just enough to prevent eye pressure as long as you don't wear the mask too high. Although even when positioned properly, my long eyelashes do make some very light contact which I do find a little bit annoying. The pouches are big but they should have made them even bigger for people with longer eyelashes. As for the material, it feels very nice against my skin. An excellent choice for the material.

Unfortunately (for me) this product was very clearly designed for people with small noses. My nose is kind of big, a bit larger than average for a caucasian male, and there is a large gap in the area where my nose meets my face. It lets in a lot of light. However, I do still use the mask since it does significantly reduce the amount of light that reaches my eyes and it is very comfortable. It just doesn't give me total darkness.

I also think I should mention for the benefit of other migraine sufferers that this mask very slightly helps with my migraines, which are centered around my eyes and temples. It reduces the pain slightly, but noticeably and of course reduces the light as well. Dream Essentials also makes a gel mask for this purpose however.

To sum up, this mask would be excellent, I might even use the word "perfect" if you are a small nosed female caucasian or if you are of Asian or maybe African descent and have a typical nose. I am a large nosed male of Eastern European descent and I find this mask extremely comfortable. So I can only imagine that it would be even more comfy for those of you that have noses that this mask was designed for. I can't help wondering if the designer was Asian or, even more likely an Asian female. But this mask should fit comfortably and securely and block out ALL light for anyone with a low nose bridge. A truly wonderful productfor those people.

If you have a bigger nose forget this mask. It WON'T block out the light which is its primary function. If only they would release a version for those of us with bigger noses.

I am probably going to purchase the Escape sleep mask from the same company Escape Luxury Sleep Mask with Earplugs and Travel Pouch - Black(Dream Essentials). It is MUCH more expensive, but it seems to avoid the nose size issue due it its design. I am hopeful, because Dream Essentials clearly knows how to make excellent sleep masks. It was tough to actually give a rating for this product. For someone with a larger nose I would give it maybe 1 or 2 stars since it doesn't work for its primary function of blocking out the light. But for anyone with a smaller nose I would give it 5 stars since it truly seems like one of those rare perfectly designed products and at a great price.

I have been buying the really cheap satin eye masks from the local drug store that just have the elastic to hold them in place. I should have stuck to those, because this mask is just not the right fit for my face. I think it could be good for someone with a larger face and/or nose. On me, though, if I pulled it down far enough to keep most of the light out, the elastic band would be over my ears, which was very uncomfortable. Plus, it was way far down on my nose, which kept causing me to wake up and push it up. It didn't stay in place well at all, and I gave up after three nights of trying to wear it.

Pros: Made of a comfortable, lightweight material. Rests comfortably on your eyes. Eye bulges allow you to open your eyes and blink under the mask. Adjustable one size fits all velcro headstrap.

Cons: Doesn't block all light. Light still gets in from the nose/cheek area at the bottom of the mask.

I have very light sensitive eyes, and have used sleep masks for 30 years.I decided to try something new on an upcoming vacation. This sleep mask did the trick. No moving off my eyes during sleep, no squashed nose, just a great night's sleep. Fast service, good price.

1.0 out of 5 stars Hurts ears, doesn't block all the light, cheap material, July 5, 2010

After all the glowing comments (which I now am rather suspicious of) I was eager to get this and try it out. I work nights and am sensitive to light while sleeping so really needed these.

-My biggest complaint is the strap that holds it on. It is very hard and scratchy and seems to position too low to sit comfortably over the ears, so it rubs on my ears all night. When I wake up my ears hurt and I've noticed it has actually started to break the skin. Also, the strap is very short - it is Velcro and I have to on the very ends of each strap so that it barely holds. I read other comments on this and thought the people must have huge heads or something - but I have a very average sized head and the strap is indeed short.

-These let in an awful lot of light from the bottoms, around the nose area etc.

-The area for your eyes to open is very small, so if it moves at all you can't open your eyes without hitting the mask. And believe me, these will not stay in one spot for long.

So I'm off to find a better pair...
