More About the Author

Robert Moss is the pioneer of Active Dreaming, an original synthesis of shamanism and modern dreamwork. Born in Australia, he survived three near-death experiences in childhood. He leads popular seminars all over the world, including a three-year training for teachers of Active Dreaming and a lively online dream school. A former lecturer in ancient history at the Australian National University, he is a best-selling novelist, journalist and independent scholar. His nine books on dreaming, shamanism and imagination include Conscious Dreaming, Dreamways of the Iroquois, The Three "Only" Things: Tapping the Power of Dreams, Coincidence and Imagination, The Secret History of Dreaming, Dreamgates, Active Dreaming and Dreaming the Soul Back Home.

"The Boy Who Died and Came Back: Adventures of a Dream Archaeologist in gthe Multiverse," Moss' personal narrative of his experiences of dying and coming back and seeking to live consciously in the multidimensional universe, will be published in March 2014.

Moss is also the author of Here, Everything Is Dreaming: Poems and Stories (Excelsion Editions, 2013).

Moss describes himself as "a dream teacher, on a path for which there has been no career track in our culture." He identifies the great watershed in his adult life as a sequence of visionary events that unfolded in 1987-1988, after he decided to leave the world of big cities and the fast-track life of a popular novelist (already the author of four New York Times bestsellers, including Moscow Rules) and put down roots on a farm in the upper Hudson Valley of New York. Moss started dreaming in a language he did not know that proved to be an archaic form of the Mohawk language. Helped by native speakers to interpret his dreams, Moss came to believe that they had put him in touch with an ancient healer - a woman of power - and that they were calling him to a different life.

Out of these experiences he wrote a series of historical novels (The Firekeeper, Fire Along the Sky, The Interpreter) and developed the practice he calls Active Dreaming, an original synthesis of contemporary dreamwork and shamanic methods of journeying and healing. A central premise of Moss's approach is that dreaming isn't just what happens during sleep; dreaming is waking up to sources of guidance, healing and creativity beyond the reach of the everyday mind.He introduced his method to an international audience as an invited presenter at the conference of the Association for the Study of Dreams at the University of Leiden in 1994.

Core techniques of Active Dreaming include

The "lightning dreamwork" process, designed to facilitate quick dream-sharing that results in helpful action; the use of the "if it were my dream" protocol encourages the understanding that the dreamer is always the final authority on his or her dream
Dream reentry: the practice of making a conscious journey back inside a dream in order to clarify information, dialogue with a dream character, or move beyond nightmare terrors into healing and resolution
Tracking and group dreaming: conscious dream travel on an agreed itinerary by two or more partners, often supported by shamanic drumming
Navigating by synchronicity: reading coincidence and "symbolic pop-ups" in ordinary life as "everyday oracles".
Dream archaeology: melding the arts of shamanic dreaming with scholarship and detective work to access other times and cultures and bring back fresh and authentic knowledge that can be tested and verified.
Exploring the multiverse and the multidimensional self.

You will want to listen to these tapes again and again as you absorb all that Robert Moss covers about dreaming -- an excellent map to the journey within and the portals you enter through dreams. I LOVE the hall of time and tips on exploring its many rooms. After listening to these tapes a few times, I dreamed that I was in a workshop with Robert Moss and in the dream I came into my own as a teacher. Since then I've enjoyed delightful dreams of teaching, one demonstrating to an auditorium of sleeping people how to fly while they're dreaming. So the tape set served as a catalyst into a critical initiation for me. I highly recommend it!

This audio set is a course in adventure! Yes, it is complimented by Mr Moss' book of the same title, but it is not some airy thing that you pop in the tape deck for distraction on those long road trips! This is a guide for the Roads to be found in Shamanic journeys. Mr Moss' narration sets the perfect tone for the excursion, and his years of experience teaching workshops on the subject shine through. To complement these tapes, he also has a new series of videos, from Psyche Productions in Milford CT, which deepen the journey even further. The possibilities are limitless!!!

I have read many books on dreaming and dream analysis. This set of tapes presents a very good introduction to the more mystical / shamanic side of dreaming. What sets these tapes apart from Robert's book is the exercises that he presents and walks you through on the tape. They make an excellent gift for anyone interested in dreaming.

There is an immediacy to these audio tapes that conveys Robert Moss's natural abilities as a teacher and dream bringer. It is a pleasure to hear his voice tell stories and impart information on how to remember our dreams and use them for the benefit of ourselves and our society. I bought sets for friends interested in their dreams who do not speak English as a first language and who might have difficulty reading Robert Moss 's books (which I highly recommend). Any person with a visual difficulty would appreciate the audio cassettes. For those who like to learn from Robert Moss how to navigate in their dreamscapes and discover help and healing through Active Dreaming techniques, these tapes are a marvellous aid. They encourage and enlighten the dreamer within us all. Also on the market now is a video series with Robert Moss, which is very engaging and informative.

These tapes can stand alone or are complimentary to Robert Moss' books, Conscious Dreaming, Dream Gates and Dreaming True. (I have them all.) There is content included on the tapes that is not in the books. Best of all is that the tapes can be used for one's own growth by doing the exercises with the guidance of the voice of Robert Moss. The breadth of knowledge that is shared and the richness of story is sure to stimulate the imagination of the listener. As a workshop leader and teacher, I like to listen to how others teach, so I find it helpful to listen to tapes when I'm on a road trip in order to expand my repertoire. This set is among my favorites!

This is an amazing audio set. It's not a book on CD, it's more like a personal workshop with Robert Moss. Anyone interested in dreams and dreaming would want to own this set. There are many exercises and techniques that you cannot learn by listening just once. It's a great reference source, but also packed full or life experiences and stories as only Robert Moss can tell them. A must have for any dreamer.
