Like golf? Then 'Dream On' is a MUST read!,
By Birth.Golf.Death. "Die Hard Golfer" (Denver, CO) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Dream On: One Hack Golfer's Challenge to Break Par in a Year (Hardcover)
For most of us, the dream of playing scratch golf is just that; a dream. Author John Richardson took that dream and made it a reality. He went from barely breaking 100 to breaking par in one year. All this while trying to maintain a happy family life. His inspiration came when golfer Sam Torrence told him it could never be done. Far too many people are told something can't be done and they accept that and move on. Reading how a person took that challenge and made it happen was thrilling. What I enjoyed most about this book wasn't the fact that John got to live my dream of being a hack and then breaking par; it was the profound passion that John showed for the game of golf and his desire to not let life pass him by without accomplishing a life long dream. I found the book far more inspirational in ways I hadn't imagined. Of course it inspired me to play better golf, but it also inspired me to make more of my entire life. 'Dream On' is a must read.

A Great Read for Golfers and Non-Golfers Alike,
By Bob D. "Golf Guy" (Phoenix, AZ, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Dream On: One Hack Golfer's Challenge to Break Par in a Year (Hardcover)
This is a fun and inspirational read whether you're a golfer or not -- the author's challenge to break par in a year was a bold one to say the least, and reading about how he went about it was a fun ride indeed! John shares his and his challenges on and off the course, balancing golf and family life, and that made this a book I could relate to. Reading John's challenge has me inspired to not only resume my own personal challenge of breaking 80, but why not try to break par myself? If you love golf, or even if you just want to read a fun, well written story, buy this book!

Okay, so I am not a golfer in any way. However I soon discovered that you don't need to be to enjoy this book. The way John Richardson writes is refreshingly humourous and insightful. I loved every minute of it and was sorry to see it end. Can't wait to see what he is going to write next!

It took me all of 3 days to read this book - I couldn't put it down - I wish he would have taken 2 years to complete the challenge (much to his wifes chagrin)- the book would be double the pages
Loved It!

Great read. Goes to show how tough it is for the average golfer to become very good at this game. It can be done, but like with anything, it takes time and effort. You also you can appreciate what a pro is able to do week after week on many courses, not just one that you play on over and over. I recommend this book to any golfer.

A wonderful book,

I first found out about John's challenge through a radio interview and the tips he gives out on his breakparblueprint website. His book sounded intriguing so I thought I'd give it a whirl. I'm SO glad I did. I'm not much of a reader normally but I finished it in a single day. It is, without a shadow of a doubt, the best golf book I've ever read. But it's so much more than that. It's a beautifully written, occasionally hilarious, often moving account of a forgotten childhood dream and John's desire to resurrect that dream. John has written a book that has the potential to change lives. I know that sounds daft but you really need to read it to fully understand why I say that. My mind is now buzzing with ideas and possibilities. I think about, not just my own golf, but all the other dreams and goals that I had as a teenager and put to one side as I "grew up". Hugely recommended.

A great book with a great message--keep reaching for your goals, even when the situation seems bleak. This book also chronicles the exact same ups and downs that most of us have felt when trying to "master" this crazy game. One day you are sure you've found the magic swing thought or move, and the next day, nothing seems to work. Well written and easy to read.

Great for golf and even better for life!,
By Mr Johnson (Los Angeles, CA) - See all my reviews

As much as this book has DRASTICALLY helped me improve my golf game (I've lost 5 strokes in 6 months), it is really the life game that makes this book so special. I just wanted to take a couple of strokes off my game and what I got was an approach to living that offers no excuses and a road map to get whatever it is you TRUELY want. I think he's a bit mad, but I guess you have to be to defy the odds and just go for it no matter what! Thank you John Richardson for this highly motivating and entertaining book!

I loved reading this book. I'm not an avid golfer I like to play now and again. This book is much more than just another golf book. I think the reviewers that didn't enjoy it were die hard golfers and failed to see beyond the golf side of things. I found the authors story very inspirational and he has a great sense of humor. It shows what can be achieved in as little as a year when you have the right focus and dedication.
Highly recommended.

Great Book - Definitely gets you going!,
This review is from: Dream On: One Hack Golfer's Challenge to Break Par in a Year (Hardcover)
Like some of the previous reviewers say, you don't have to be a golfer to enjoy this book. Sure, there are a few golf terms mentioned that one might need some help with, but the overall theme of the book translates to anyone. Richardson did a great job detailing how hard he had to work to pull-off his Dream. He really manages to inspire an "action-oriented" approach to chasing your dreams. I would definitely suggest this book to anyone who needs a quick jump-start to go after whatever it is that they want in life.
Overall, it was a very good book - definitely earned a place as one of my favorites. |
