Selling the Log Home Dream,
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Dream Log Homes and Plans (Paperback)
This book presents both factual information and professional quality photos, so you learn about log home construction, get some good finishing ideas and are entertained all at the same time. The book is very reasonably priced for its size and 450 page length. As a log home owner myself, I strongly agree with one of the important points it makes about the need for extended roof overhangs to protect the logs from weather. I would emphasize this more by having additional pictures. As it is, only a single sentence mentions it, as a side note. The log homes depicted in this book were mostly custom made and expensive to build in material and contractors. However, some of us can only afford to buy a log home kit and we would have to modify the seller's blueprints and add the overhangs or extend the roof, all as an extra expense. Another important topic, that is missing altogether, could be another whole chapter on log home restoration techniques. Realistically, I understand though, why this was not done. Pictures of tearing out log walls with dry rot, bug infestations, window damage due to shrinking logs, etc., would not fit in well with the professionally staged interior photos and the concept of selling the "Log Home Dream". If those topics were to be included, then this would be the comprehensive log home guide. As it is, it presents a pretty picture but comes up short on what a log home buyer or log home owner really needs to know.
