A Pleasant Dream Book!,
This review is from: The Dream Jar (Hardcover)
I was impressed with the little girl telling the story to her sister, in a way that you would expect sisters to share secrets. The message is beautiful even for children who don't have scarey dreams. For younger children, the illustrations are so vivid, they completely tell the story without the words. I'm giving this as Christmas gifts to four children so far.

The Dream Jar takes you on a wonderful voyage of the imagination. The combination of delightful, original ddrawings and an important message (delivered in a totally NON-SAPPY way!) will make this a bed-time standard. This is a great gift book for all the nephews and neices and grandchildren and god-children on your list. You can make a "dream jar" for them to go with it too!

I discovered this book by accident @ our local library over 1 year ago with my oldest, then 3. She absolutely adored it and still speaks of it to this day. Now my youngest, now 3, is having his own bad dreams and this book instantly came to mind. We've since moved and our local library doesn't carry this book so yes, I'm buying our own copy. It's a great book to help ease the fears of littls one's, even if it's with a magic wand! :)

You have a MAGIC WAND--use it!,

This is author Lindan Lee Johnson's first book and I hope not her last. My nearly 4 year old daughter and I love it.
The story is about a little girl who has scary dreams. But thanks to her wonderful older sister whom she shares a room with she gets a number of pointers that change her nasty dreams into fantastic dreams. And they are the kind of practical suggestions that can help any child who suffers from nightmares. The author, who has studied Jungian dream analysis, must have had her own dreams come true when Serena Curmi illustrated her book. The pictures are beautiful, fun, and--DREAMY!

Childrens Dreams,

This review is from: The Dream Jar (Hardcover)
The Dream Jar presents an engaging approach to dealing with dreams and nightmares. An excellent introduction to the concept of lucid dreaming, and a useful approach for parents working with their children's experience of nightmares. A warm and realistic story that children will enjoy and learn from.

I bought this for our son who had been suffering from nightmares and was afraid to go to bed alone. After reading this book just once with him he was able to draw on the thoughts from it and go to bed without a fight. Thank you, Dream Jar!

I bought this book for my 4 year old granddaughter because she was afraid of going to sleep and having bad dreams. This book was a helpful tool toward erasing her fears.

Dreamy Dream,
This review is from: The Dream Jar (Hardcover)
More than a comforting story for children with bad dreams (although comfort is, delightfully, a by product), Dream Jar by Lindan Lee Johnson bewitches readers and their families with an imaginative strategy. Beginning in a "sky-blue room at the tip top of the stairs," two sisters share cozy bedtime rituals, until dreams become frighteningly real for the younger sister.
Her older sister shares "The Secret," an almost magical practice of changing the story of a dream. Scary sea monsters become silly when "you close your eyes and see" them "in your mind," turning a bad dream into a "Dreamy Dream." A winsome solution, as long as big sister is in the bed on the right. But, when a sleepover invitation for big sister leaves little sister alone in the room's bed on the left, and even a "list of things that make us laugh" (like the favorite things from "Sound of Music") is no longer comforting by bedtime, there is a breathtaking mystery waiting to ease her imagination into action. Illustrator Serena Curmi uses the contrasts of yellow and blue for morning and night and, in reassuring tones, recasts the frightful orange, purple, and green monsters into silly pink, blue and yellow cross-eyed ballerina monsters in a sea resembling a bubble-bath. With occasional hand-lettering by the artist, and sparkling with stars and whimsical touches (like the grinning crescent moon lamp between the beds) author Johnson's deft storytelling guides her readers along the silvery slide of imagination into a smiling, shining, dreamy dream of a story. (Miami Family magazine, January 2007)
