4.0 out of 5 stars Keepin Love Alive, January 5, 2010
This review is from: Dream Keeper (Indigo) (Paperback)
In the sequel to Dream Runner, Gail McFarland tells the story of Marissa and Dench Traylor. Marissa was a very successful sports attorney and Dench was the head coach of the Atlanta Falcons Football team. The two were a team that everyone wanted to be a part of. The only problem that Marissa and Dench had was that they had been unable to conceive a baby.

After years of fertility testing and lots of prayer, Marissa became pregnant and all their dreams were about to be answered. Yet, due to complications, Marissa miscarried and their world was shattered. Dealing with depression and loss of a child, Marissa withdrew and Dench struggled to convince her that things would be fine.

McFarland weaves a very complicated and interesting story of the struggle that couples, who have fertility problems, experience. She gives very detailed accounts of what the procedure costs and what the couple must endure. The readers will find themselves crying and cheering for Marissa and Dench each step of the way. This book is recommended for book clubs to read.

5.0 out of 5 stars (RAW Rating: 4.5) - In The Middle Of A Normal Life...., December 26, 2009
By
The RAWSISTAZ Reviewers (RAWSISTAZ.com and BlackBookReviews.net) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Dream Keeper (Indigo) (Paperback)
Marissa Yarbrough Taylor, a prominent sports attorney, needed only one thing to reach her zenith, a baby. After four years of fertility treatments and extensive tests, she is pregnant. This will be the best Christmas present she can give her husband, Atlanta Falcon's defensive coach, Dench Taylor.

But, several weeks after her announcement, Rissa miscarries and the loss is devastating. Rissa's struggle seems tangible, you can almost touch her pain; she turns away from Dench and internalizes her grief. This is where the story takes wings, DREAM KEEPER evolves into Marriage-101 and Dench becomes my hero. He epitomizes all a caring man and supportive husband should be. He pushes his feelings to the left and refuses to let Rissa lose herself. With Dench's love Rissa starts to become a complete woman again, in spite of her loss. To Rissa, the alternatives to birthing her own child seem unnatural or unreasonable, but she agrees to seek other options. After a glorious second honeymoon in Negril, Jamaica Rissa learns something that will ultimately change them. From that revelation, they must find a new faith and a new hope that their lives will be complete, and they will become the family they've dreamed of being.

DREAM KEEPER is filled with a personal drama that does not overtake the story. It is a simple, mature story about dreams, marriage vows, loss, and commitment. McFarland presents strong primary characters that pull the heart and a couple with the grit, and raw passion to fight to keep their love alive. We also revisit key characters from the prequel, Dream Runner. The dialogue is awesome, which adds realness to what is truly a love story. By chapter fifteen, I was reading with anticipation AND apprehension. Have you ever read a story with your fingers crossed, couldn't wait to get to the end, but did not want to turn to the last page? Yeah, I enjoyed this story that much! The 'dream keeper' theory was surprising and sweet.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dreams do come true!!!, December 11, 2009
This review is from: Dream Keeper (Indigo) (Paperback)
Dear Ms Gail! Your book, "Dream Keeper" was a great and touching read... Rissa and Dench's story kept me rooting for them to receive their hearts' desire. You described the heartaches and frustrations people experience when they seemed to do everything right and still are lacking: in this case, a baby of their own. All the other characters are reminders of what they don't have especially Marlea, AJ, Jabari, and Nia but they help them to grow and keep the faith. Awe inspiring to see this couple shine in their respective careers especially Rissa as a Sports Agent, a force to be reckoned with. Even when they need a bop to the head, Rissa and Dench remember the love like Jesus love the Church. Dreams do come true... May you have a blessed Holiday season. Will be looking for more books in 2010!!!
