5.0 out of 5 stars Great book for those stuck in life or feeling like they want to do more with their life
Great book! It is very inspiring to go through and CHOOSE what I want to do with my life. We get stuck in a rut often times and this book has really helped me get out of one!

2.0 out of 5 stars You can find it all on 43things.com, December 27, 2008
This review is from: Dream It. List It. Do It!: How to Live a Bigger & Bolder Life, from the Life List Experts at 43Things.com (Paperback)
43things.com is one of my favourite websites, and as a result, I really wanted to like this book, which is a spin-off from 43 Things. Unfortunately, most of the content of this book can be found for free on 43 Things. For the uninitiated, 43 Things is a site which encourages people to create life list (that is, lists of things to do before you die) and put them up on the site and cheer each other on to complete them. You can also look at the things that others have on their lists, which can provide inspiration for your own list. What this book provides is essentially page after page of these list items that people have put up on 43 things. There are some paragraphs of text in between them, but the majority of the book is made up of these suggestions. I'm not saying that these are bad suggestions. In fact, I think that lists of ideas of what you can do with your life are great. However, if you can obtain these ideas for free, why bother to buy the book?

This wonderful book is full of motivation for living a fun and full life. As I flip through it I think, "Yes, I've always wanted to do that!" but sometimes life gets in the way and we forget. Lists are great and this is a wonderful book that reminds us of all we are capable of !

This is a little book of lists. It's from the website [...] and gives you suggestions for a "life list" which is basically ideas for living a full and rich life. So many people miss opportunities or never try to live their dreams and that's where this little book comes in. Grab the book, thumb through for inspiration, and run with everything you've ever wanted to do. Even if you find out that some of what you've wanted to try weren't for you, at least you tried. Better than doing nothing and regretting.

I'm sure many people have seen the movie "The Bucket List?" Well this is a small version of that with a similar message. Live your life. Live your dreams.

I've found so many things that I thought "wow, that's a cool idea" just from flipping through this book. I enjoy doing 43 things, it's so much better than doing just one. This book is filled with far more than 43 things though, hundreds of ideas, and I'm sure you'll have your own to add.

It's a great little pocket book bursting with adventures, projects & ideas.

This seemed like a good idea. My husband has been going through a period where he has been thinking about all of the things he would like to do. I saw this book and thought that this would be a great idea. Well, it is a good concept, but after going through this book, I really didn't need to pay money to get the information that is in this book. There is a website devoted to this that is free. So, this was just ok for me. I wouldn't recommend this book, but rather refer people to the website.

3.0 out of 5 stars Cute book and Idea, November 21, 2011

This book is super cute if you're looking for ideas to make your life more lively; however, I realized after purchasing that you can pretty much find the exact same thing on their website, 43things.com. Still, it is nice to have a book to check off at the end of the day.

3.0 out of 5 stars Life Path, June 25, 2009

A good place to start for anyone needing advice on building a life list. Anyone who wants to develop those ideas further into an action plan should consider the Life Path Journal Life Path Journal: Who are you, what do you want and how are you going to get there?

2.0 out of 5 stars Beware of some of the advice..., June 21, 2009
This review is from: Dream It. List It. Do It!: How to Live a Bigger & Bolder Life, from the Life List Experts at 43Things.com (Paperback)
I am concerned that some of the recommendations in this book are actually counterproductive. From "Economists Do It With Models":

"Tests done since 1933 show that people who talk about their intentions are less likely to make them happen. Announcing your plans to others satisfies your self-identity just enough that you're less motivated to do the hard work needed.

In 1933, W. Mahler found that if a person announced the solution to a problem, and was acknowledged by others, it was now in the brain as a "social reality", even if the solution hadn't actually been achieved.

NYU psychology professor Peter Gollwitzer has been studying this since his 1982 book "Symbolic Self-Completion" - and recently published results of new tests in a research article, "When Intentions Go Public: Does Social Reality Widen the Intention-Behavior Gap?"

Four different tests of 63 people found that those who kept their intentions private were more likely to achieve them than those who made them public and were acknowledged by others.

Once you've told people of your intentions, if gives you a "premature sense of completeness." You have "identity symbols" in your brain that make your self-image. Since both actions and talk create symbols in your brain, talking satisfies the brain enough that it "neglects the pursuit of further symbols."

A related test found that success on one sub-goal (eating healthy meals) reduced efforts on other important sub-goals (going to the gym) for the same reason."

Given this, I would be very careful about taking unsubstantiated advice from this book. I am also curious as to what credentials the authors have in order to be giving this sort of advice in general.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not What I thought, April 24, 2009
This review is from: Dream It. List It. Do It!: How to Live a Bigger & Bolder Life, from the Life List Experts at 43Things.com (Paperback)
The book is really more for individuals who struggle with confidence in achieving everyday goals. I thought it would be more about finding excellence and seeking new adventures. Not terrible, but not what I was looking for.
