5.0 out of 5 stars NEW CASS ELLIOT MUSIC!!!
Unlike some artists who have passed on way before their time, Cass Elliot has not had a wealth of unreleased tracks surface in the marketplace. Finally, we have a real gem to celebrate in "East Of The Sun (West Of The Moon)" from 1972. It gives fans a beautiful idea of what Cass might have gone on to record had she just a bit more time. The vocal is crisp, the delivery...

2.0 out of 5 stars Only 2 stars....and I'll tell you why
I am one of Cass Elliot's biggest fans, but this collection irks me a bit. First of all, "Different" and "Young Girl's Lament" ARE NOT on this CD even though Amazon says that they are. I am tired of Cass Elliot's material being released only piecemeal on various CD's. I am also getting tired of the same name "Dream A Little Dream Of Me" (or some variation of that title...

The vocal is crisp, the delivery savvy, and the instrumentation and production value could stand toe-to-toe with anything released today. Cass Elliot is right on the mark here. Overall, the collection is a delightful cross section of much of her solo career... debuting as it does, for the very first time on Cd, a couple tracks from her "The Road Is No Place For A Lady" album. Here's hoping the entire work soon sees the light of day in Cd form. It is long overdue. In all fairness, the Cd packaging is slim, but the music is long on talent!! Wouldn't it be nice if someone would package a Cd's worth of Cass Elliot T.V. performances?! The fans are waiting...

God, she was good!! The sound on this disc is superb, and the selection of songs is excellent. The material sounds so fresh and new, it reminded me just how much I loved her music when I was first introduced to it 30+ years ago. It made me aware, again, of how much I miss her. A great sampling of her work!

This is a blessing! Just buy it - the remastering is brilliant.
Until they re-release all her solo stuff - this is worth it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mama Cass Forever, November 29, 2008

When ons thinks of one-of-a-kind singers of course the names of Lena Horne, Judy Garland, Billie Holiday, Joan Baez come immediately to mind. But any such list must include the immortal Mama Cass Elliot. There is pure sunshine in her voice. Every note is precisely sung, every syllable ennunciated. There is sweetness and good humor in her style, with an undercurrent of longing that makes Mama Cass' voice instantly recognizable, the kind of voice that, whatever you're doing, makes you want to stop and listen.

What a great voice! This is the best compilation of her music to date. As a bonus, it includes the previously unreleased song "East Of The Sun (And West Of The Moon)". Amazon, thank you for making this CD available to us in the USA!

I always liked Cass Elliot and strong, clear voices like hers. This is a great collection of her hits, some I've never heard, and some I haven't heard for 40 years. I really enjoyed listening.

I am tired of Cass Elliot's material being released only piecemeal on various CD's. I am also getting tired of the same name "Dream A Little Dream Of Me" (or some variation of that title thereof) being the title of anything about her over and over again. Once and for all, just release ALL of this late great woman's spectacular works and think of a different title to use! Also, (as even a semi fan of Cass' knows) she LOATHED the moniker of "Mama Cass." That name is fine if she is with the other M & P's, but individually, as a tribute to her original solo work, just use the name Cass Elliot. I am sure people wouldn't mind. The three "Hardees" jingles at the end of the CD are a nice rarity.

5.0 out of 5 stars A good overview of Cass' recordings., May 18, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Dream a Little Dream of Me: The Music of (Audio CD)
What is great about this CD is that it has true rarities by Cass , as well as the hits that she's known for. Firstly, it does have a good overview of Cass' hit singles DREAM A LITTLE DREAM OF ME, IT'S GETTING BETTER, MAKE YOUR OWN KIND OF MUSIC, NEW WORLD COMING, WORDS OF LOVE with The Mamas & The Papas and more. But what is great is the rare songs never on CD before like her 1972 RCA singles DOES ANYBODY LOVE YOU and [ IF YOU'RE GONNA ] BREAK ANOTHER HEART - 2 of my favorite Cass songs. Plus it has the unreleased EAST OF THE SUN WEST OF THE MOON , which is only found here. Plus, it has a few rare jingles that Cass did for Hardees in 1973. Also has songs from every solo album that Cass did, from 1968-1973.

It's not a complete career history , which would have to be at least 2 CD's. So, you don't get her early folk & bluesy numbers like WILD WOMEN or YOUNG GIRLS LAMENT with The Big Three from 1963, or The Mugwumps folk-rock from 1964. And of course it doesn't cover The Mamas & The Papas much, but then that's easily available & most fans own the group's recordings anyway. But it is essential for any Cass fan to have the rare tracks. The cover could have been a better photo, & the booklet is only 4 pages [ though the liner notes are good ], but the music is here & that's what matters.

4.0 out of 5 stars Mama Cass' Music, February 10, 2007

I had forgotten about Mama Cass' solo career and was excited when I came across this CD for sale. It is a tad monotonous as pretty much all the songs are love songs, but it's redemption is the great voice of Cass Elliott.

2.0 out of 5 stars Don't give the fans what they want, April 12, 2005

It's dizzying the amount of times some of these tracks have been released on CD, yet Elliot's THE ROAD IS NO PLACE FOR A LADY album remains unavailable on CD. Yes, this collection does include a couple of selections from that LP (though not the best track, "Saturday Suit"), but fans want the ENTIRE album.

We get a previously unreleased song here. It's somewhat slight, but a breath of fresh air amidst the many songs the many fans already own on many other CDs. Which begs the question: Why not give the fans even more rarities? I'll bet there are other Elliot tracks in the vault. Plus, there are a number of singles and B-sides from the early seventies unavailable on CD.
