The best start for a new series,
By A Customer
This review is from: Dream A Little Dream: A Tale of Myth And Moonshine (Hardcover)
This book was great! I thought that the story of Nola and her imagination was intriging. I can't wait for another book by these two authors comes out. I'll be the first on line. If you liked Piers Anthony's Chaos Mode series, you'll love this new world of dreams and wishes.

A heart touching story...,

When I first looked at this book ,it was sadly not for Julie, but for Piers Anthony. But as always after I picked it up I could not put it down! Even if two authors had written this book about Tina and Nola, they both deserve the credit. Now I know Piers is a great writer ,but Julie is just as great. It was actually a very heart touching story...and a sometimes sad one. This story was greatly illistrated and I thought that Nola and Tina were very good character structures. All in all I give this book my compliments and a five-star rating.

I liked the idea.,

I'm a 42 year old female, and as much as I love fantasy..... maybe it's my stage of development at this time in my life...but I didn't enjoy this book as much as I'd expected from the description of the story on the jacket, and my enjoyment of Piers Anthony's work in the past. If this book was aimed at adolescents, personally I would like to have seen the two main characters react to each other on a strictly emotional level, rather than a physical one. It's hard enough for ADULTS to distinguish between lust and love. I understand the need to escape into a dream wordl, but I never did understand abusive relationships because people who REALLY LOVE YOU don't treat you that way! I've met a lot of people who treat total strangers with more courtesy and respect than members of their own family, or people they supposedly love. I found the lead "heroine" annoying as rather than developing into a mature adult, she didn't take responsibility for HER actions in the abusive relationship. He was a BAD MAN, but she kept dragging the guy back after he'd leave her! Would like to have had this phenomenom explained more and the reader taught how to deal with that type of behavior in the real world we all have to live in. Escape doesn't SOLVE the problem. She did START to learn to stand on her own, rather than depend on her friends to rescue her. Would love to see another book from the author, Julie Brady, in how her characters learn to develop mentally and emotionally into mature adults. I liked the idea for the book and hope to see more from this author.

A beautiful fantasy novel that will inspire your own dreams.,

A combination of simple easy-to-read prose, an engaging story, mature topics, potent symbolism, and intriguing characters makes _Dream A Little Dream_ a fun and moving book. I always read the book flap first, the authors' notes second, and the actual story last. In this case, reading the authors' notes gives a wonderful perspective (or is that pre-spective <grin>) on the work.I have been reading Piers Anthony's novels for fifteen years. I can highly recommend this collaboration with Julie Brady. I am eager to read more from this obviously talented and creative new author, whether in collaboration with Piers or on her own. The story, concept, and method in which the book was written are exciting and ripe with promise for future stories. Perhaps I'm so excited about this book because of my own interest and enjoyment of dreams, or perhaps because the characters in the book seem so real and memorable. Either way, for pure fantasy enjoyment, it gets five stars.

Amazingly Awful,
By Stormi (PA, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Dream A Little Dream: A Tale of Myth And Moonshine (Mass Market Paperback)
This book was amazingly awful. From the simplistic, awkward wording of the book to the lack of creativity, this book was just bad. The main characters were whiny and emo, and I found it difficult to get behind them and feel supportive. Not only that, but the plot, for me, fell flat. There was no real cohesive plot, and certainly nothing creative or remotely deep. The fantasy world was ill defined as a whole and fell well short of worlds created in other fantasy works. I finished the whole book, not out of any sort of attention but more out of an incredulous horror that such a poorly worded piece could be successfully published. However, I would still recommend reading it because if you don't take it too seriously, it can be absolutely hilarious.

An indepth look into abusive relationships and hope.,

This review is from: Dream A Little Dream: A Tale of Myth And Moonshine (Hardcover)
Julie Brady is a new writer of great talent combined with the premier Fantasy writer Piers Anthony and you have a wonderful new world created by dreams. It's a Love story and a quest novel roled into one with a heroine instead of a hero. This book gives some insights into why women stay in abusive relationships and the hardships that sometimes ensue when they leave. You can feel the self hatred and feelings of worthlessness of the main characters. You can also feel the strong hope and dreams of each of them. This story covers it all from despair to aborted suicide to the bloom of new hope and selfworth. It gives a feeling of hope and a reason to believe in our dreams. Well worth reading. Keep a hanky close by it may cause tears.

They say, "you cant judge a book by it's cover," well, that isnt alwaya the case. The cover in this book says it all. It is a great book and I highly suggest it to anyone who loves the thrill of fantasy and adventure.(Not to mention a little romance). If your like me, you dont just buy any book, it has to be perfect. Right? Well, this book is perfect.Another thing about this book is when you're reading it, it's like you're actually there, going through whatever the charactor is going through. It is a great book!! A soul-searching novel,
By A Customer
This review is from: Dream A Little Dream: A Tale of Myth And Moonshine (Hardcover)
This first novel by July Brady is a wonderful surprise. From despair and hopelessness, we are taken hand to hand to hope and dreams that come true, but not win with a snap but with hard work. Nola is a young woman in the wrong relationship, that uses her dreams as a way to escape our dreadful reality. There she has an beautiful unisus (half unicorn, half pegasus) and a wonderful and understanding Prince Charming. But what she didn't know was that what she thought were just fancies, was as real as the world we live. But of course, there is a threat that only she and other people like her, the Creators, can stop. This is a novel to read and read again to get all different meanings. It is amazing also, that this novel comes from the writer own lucid dreaming. I really recommend it.

Barely readable,

I found this clumsily written, and reading it was about as much fun as chewing tinfoil. A pity, as Anthony wrote some good things once. The plot read like bad wish-fulfillment fantasies. The girl goes into serial dream aspect reminded me a little of Neal Gaiman's brilliant "Game of You" and Jonathan Carroll's wonderful "Bones of the Moon" only those are good books. And this, I'm afraid, isn't. I've never had to apologize to an author before. Sorry.

For those who dream....,

I am not completely positive how much work was done by each author---Mr. Anthony or Ms. Brady, but it seems to be written from a very feminine point of view. Though this is not to say that a male will not appreciate the work. Actually, anybody who has ever dreamed about being elsewhere or being a part of a fantasy will probably enjoy this tale. However, this is not a book for all fantasy readers. If you primarily read from authors like Robert Jordan or David Eddings--epic fantasy--then you may not enjoy this novel. On the other hand, fans of Piers Anthony and similar authors of his genre, will more then likely enjoy this story, or if you wish to read a fantasy novel that seems to take place closer to home instead of in a far away land and time.
