Editorial Reviews

Review

"This is a huge collection of very short but very steamy and romantic love stories with a paranormal twist. I was going to highlight my favorites, but the list was too long! There isn't a story in here that I wouldn't give at least 4 howls to, but almost all of them really deserve 5. They all succeeded on some level whether it was the unique storyline, the interesting characters, the ability to draw out strong emotions so quickly, or the flow of the words. I found some of the stories so amazingly unique, and I can't help but wonder how these authors come up with these ideas. It was just very impressive. Although each story was unique, they all fit together wonderfully in this anthology. The foreword by Megan Hart was very sensual and was a brilliant start to this collection. I'm so glad I read this and found a whole new list of authors that I will now search out. Dream Loverbook is definitely a keeper!!"
— Kris at Bitten by Paranormal Romance

"Dream Lover is a fun and exciting anthology of paranormal erotic fiction. If you've ever read a paranormal romance, you have a good idea of what paranormal erotica involves. Yes, there are the usual vampires and werewolves, but there are also fairies and gargoyles and ghosts, oh my! The editor, Kristina Wright, has done a masterful job of choosing and arranging stories with a wide variety of fantasy elements and steamy sexual scenarios."
—Ivy Wilde

"Dream Lover takes the reader through some of the most interesting erotic fantasy fiction around."
—Sandra Scholes for Love Romance Passion

"An imaginative collection of short and arousing tales involving a breadth of paranormal characters. Nice plot twists involving Lucy Feltouse's bored succubus or Kate Pearce's man of one's dreams locked in a tower give variety to the tales which feature a mixture of familiar and new authors who show their dexterity at creating hot scenes between unusual characters in all too brief tales."
—Night Owl Reviews

"Overall, the whole anthology was good. Each story in Dream Lover was short and unique. All focus on different aspects of love and the way different people and beings can experience it. It was a very quick and easy read.
— Athena at Paranormal Haven

"Kristina Wright delivers taut, breakneck pacing with snappy dialogue." — Book Page

"Dream Lover, edited by Kristina wright, is a collection of diverse, elegantly erotic tales of paranormal romance."

—Erin O'Riordan blogspot.com

"From mermaids to succubi to vampires, the Dream Lover anthology has it all. Stuffed full of authors both new and familiar to me, I found something to satisfy every mood I might have, as well as every mystical creature I’ve ever thought about imagining. I loved how the stories all had a similar thread running through them, but were all different enough to stand out on their own. Each will grab your attention and draw you into its own world for a moment or two before returning you home again. If you’re a lover of the exotic, erotic, and extraordinary, then this is by far the anthology for you."

DREAM LOVER
by Kristina Wright, editor

Genre: Anthology, Paranormal, Erotic Romance

4 star RT Rating

"The erotic tales in Dream Lover differ in setting and character, but all are well written and passionate. There is a choice of paranormal seduction for every reader. All are original and entertaining.

Highlights of this 17-story anthology include Justine Elyot’s “Love Resurrection,” where an academic is seduced by the ghost of her favorite poet. A fairy comes for a sugar rush from a pretty baker in Shanna German’s “Devil’s Food.” In “Shattered Belle,” Craig Sorensen proves that even ghosts get a second chance at love.

In Alana Noël Voth’s “Moongirl Meets the Wolfman,” a shapeshifter finally finds his perfect mate. A Fae must defeat the demon with whom he made a bargain in order to stay with his lover in Ericka Hiatt’s “The Eye of Pearl.” A woman finds her dream lover and learns about her own desires in Kristina Wright’s “Thief of Dreams.”

4.0 out of 5 stars Sweet and Supernatural Lovers June 29, 2011
By Sammi
Format:Paperback
I received Dream Lover: Paranormal Tales of Erotic Romance for free, in exchange for writing an unbiased review. I was excited to get this one, as I like supernatural and horror stories - and having a bit of erotica mixed in with these elements seemed like a great combination.

This is a nice collection of romantic and somewhat erotic stories. They lean more towards romantic dalliances, but they all have an erotic edge that makes the couplings more exciting. These 242 pages contain 17 stories, a forward by Megan Hart, introduction by Kristina Wright, and short about the authors and editor sections in the back.

In the forward, Megan delves into what fantasies means and covers the different contexts. She talks about how fantasies often involve something more dark and mysterious than what we might encounter in real life. Kristina carries this further in her introduction, when she ponders who your dream lover could be and reveals a somewhat surprising choice of her own - and one I completely understand as it used to be one of my choices as well.

The stories in this collection run the gamut : a ghost resurrected by a yearning woman, a woman seduced by a man from the sea, a human baker and her larger-than-fairy visitor, a woman and man who can make rain, female ghosts who seduce men, ghostly lovers who want to reconnect through their modern-day counterparts, werewolves, wolfmen, gargoyles, witches, telepaths, birdmen, succubi, bewitched men and vampires, demons and angels, all find their way into the lives of characters living in this collection.

All of the stories here are well written: how erotic they are will depend on how well you like the couplings (e.g., if you're really into ghosts, "Love Resurrection" by Justine Elyot and "Living off Lovers" by Kristina Lloyd may be your stories of choice, while if you're more into witches "Old-Fashioned Glamour" by Nikki Magennis may be more your style.

While I enjoyed most of the stories in these pages (I love horror and supernatural elements in stories, regardless of genre), these two were my favorites:

"Freeing the Demon" by Sacchi Green - the gargoyle stands guard outside her window, until one night her pimp causes it to do more than guard. Can Jayne's demon break free from the stone and come to love her as a flesh and blood being?

"Thief of Dreams" by Kristina Wright - is she dreaming or is she awake when she sees and talks to the handsome angel she often finds sitting on the edge of her bed? After a bout of insomnia, Michelle learns who her mysterious nighttime visitor is who walks through her dreams and tastes her soul.

Overall, this is a fun collection to sink your teeth into before bedtime and inspire whatever dreams you may have when you finally drift off to sleep.

Format:Paperback|Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
I enjoy paranormal romance and urban fantasy, and I also enjoy a good, hot sex scene in a book. Luckily for me, Dream Lover fits the bill. It's a solid collection of sexy paranormal stories: some more romantic, some more erotic, and all hot.

**The Hits**

The stories I liked best, in terms of storytelling blended with erotica, were "Living Off Lovers" by Kristina Lloyd, "Folly" by Kate Pearce, and "Lust As Old As Us" by Madeline Moore. "Living Off Lovers" is a strange story, told from the point of view of a woman living in an apartment building that seems to be gaining sentience. She's intrigued by her neighbor, and finds that they've both been drawn into a ghostly disturbance. The sex in "Living Off Lovers" is shockingly erotic, though due to, er, certain sex acts it might not be to everyone's taste.

In "Folly," Rose gives in to her urge to explore a ruined old house and brings to life an ancient being. Pearce's writing is smooth and believable, and even in such a short story, Rose is a believable, sympathetic character who is trying to get over her boyfriend's betrayal and deal with the magic she's awakened in the stone.

"Lust As Old As Us" isn't a traditionally romantic story, and the love it deals with--between a mortal woman and a vampire--strays far over the border into obsession. While the love story isn't my ideal, I was definitely fascinated by the power the woman and the vampire had over each other. The ending really surprised me. I don't want to spoil it, but while it does have something of a Happily Ever After, it definitely wasn't what I expected.

The sexiest and most romantic stories for me were "Dreaming By The Sea" by Delilah Devlin, "Devil's Food" by Shanna Germain, and "Vanilla" by Victoria Janssen. "Dreaming By The Sea" was lovely and sensual, about a woman afraid of the sea whose repressed history is brought back by a mysterious visitor on her beach. "Devil's Food" was a cute and romantic story about a baker and a mysterious, sugar-craving man (There are lots of mysterious men in this anthology). "Vanilla" is more of a snippet than a complete short story, about a telepath who finally lets someone close to her. Janssen is a wonderful writer, and I think I'm going to have to poke around and see if "Vanilla" is part of a larger story.

**The Misses**

There were a few stories that didn't ring my bell. The first in the anthology, "Love Resurrection" by Justine Elyot, involved a woman summoning up a ghostly lover, a poet who sold his soul to the devil. The concept is great, but the execution left something to be desired. The happy ending seemed too pat and had me rolling my eyes. Most of the few stories that didn't do it for me involved Happily Ever Afters shoehorned into stories about people who've just met. Your mileage may vary, of course, but I personally prefer HEAs that come about after character have gotten to know each other, not an hour after they've had sex for the first time. But that is my own personal reading quirk, and if you dig the love-at-first-sight kind of romances, you'll probably enjoy the stories that I didn't.

**Overall**

Dream Lover is a great blend of sexy stories, with something for every reader. If you want down-and-dirty erotica, you'll find it here. If you're looking for a little more tenderness and romance to go with that hot sex, you'll find that, too. For me, there were many more hits than misses, and I'm glad I picked this up. In fact, I'll probably end up re-reading quite a few of these stories.

4.0 out of 5 stars Otherworldly romance, served up steamy June 29, 2011
Format:Paperback
This is a fine collection of short paranormal erotic romances. Some of the stories are solidly written and fun, but probably won't stay with me for long. Others I have no doubt I'll remember for a long time to come.

A few standouts for me:

Shanna Germain's charming "Devil's Food," in which a baker heroine meets a hot fairy man with a sweet tooth. The story's endearing and the sex is hot, but what really makes this tale is the talking toad sidekick.

Sacchi Green's "Freeing the Demon"--this is one dark, creepy story and not a love story in any conventional sense, yet it's deeply Romantic with a capital R.

"Moongirl Meets the Wolfman," by Alana Noel Voth, a different take on the werewolf mythos, written in a literary yet sexy style.

I could easily recap almost all the stories as stand-outs in some sense--for plot, for writing style, for sheer sex appeal. Why, then, only 4 stars? Just my personal preference. I would have liked to see a few more stories that explored the darker side of the supernatural and/or the "darker," kinkier side of sex. A few more kinky, dark, twisted (yet romantic) tales in the vein of "Freeing the Demon" would made this excellent collection a 5-star one for my personal tastes. Despite that minor complaint, this book is going on the keeper shelf and I suspect I'll be rereading it often.
