Announcing the new Lullaby and Lovesong CD from Mae Robertson - Dream

Biography

When Mae Robertson was a new mother and the owner of three children's stores in the Northeast, a friend overheard her singing the traditional folk song "The Water Is Wide" as a lullaby to her baby. He convinced her to record a suite of traditional and contemporary songs as lullabies, and a new career was born.

Now, with four award-winning albums in her Lullaby & Lovesong Collection - All Through… Read more in Amazon's Mae Robertson Store

5.0 out of 5 stars "Dream" is truly dreamy, March 11, 2007

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Dream (Audio CD)
Every album that Mae has released has been a gem but this one has an even brighter shine. Her talents as a singer and interpreter have deepened, and the production quality is brilliant. If you are looking for a baby gift, look no further. But you don't have to have young children to fall in love with this album.

There are several covers, including Paul Simon's "St. Judy's Comet," "Midnight Lullaby" by Tom Waits, "You Can Close Your Eyes" by James Taylor, and Bob Dylan's "Forever Young" that are given new life on this album. They beautifully display the best of what a cover song should be: a reimagining and reinvigoration of a classic. And there are more traditional lullabies like "Godspeed" and "Dream a Dream" that glow with the warmth and beauty of Mae's voice.

The musicians assembled for this project are equally stellar and, together with the sensitive production, they create a deep and rich sound.

When I first heard this album and was searching for a way to describe it, the phrase "conjugations of beauty" came to mind. I don't know if I made this phrase up myself or if I heard it before, but it definitely applies to these songs.

I encourage you to listen to the song samples and then treat yourself to the whole album. These songs are soothing and inspiring at the same time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Favorite lullabies by a wonderful singer..., February 9, 2010

Mae Robertson's renditions of these lullabies are beautiful! I had been searching for "Winken Blinken and Nod" (written by Lucy Simon and recorded by Lucy and Carly Simon in 1964) on YouTube and Amazon, and finally found the song on this CD. Then when I discovered "You Can Close your Eyes" by James Taylor, I was hooked. Beyond lullabies, these are also love songs for all generations.

4.0 out of 5 stars Just what baby needs, July 7, 2007
This review is from: Dream (Audio CD)
I bought one cd for my 1 year old granddaughter and one for her 65 year old grandmother (me).
I liked the traditional songs more than the ones the singer had written but several reminded me of my Daddy singing to me. Nice!
