after having this album ever since it came out in 2003 and having listened to it so MANY times i've actually worn it out, i have to say this is one of the best emo cd's i've ever heard. i read these reviews of people whining about his nasal/monotone voice. i admit his voice is different but different in a way it relates to the songs and message in the album. the album itself is kind of a sad album which deals with relationships, self-realizations, and being isolated from others. another thing, i don't see how people say the lyrics are unoriginal and lame. how is that! the lyrics are very heartfelt and deep but not deep enough to where people are lost with the message Ben Jorgenson is trying to convey. even though this album is two years old, (and they have a new one out) i still listen to it frequently. this album is good to listen to when your alone, having relationship problems, or when your having trouble with everyday life. also, a good album to listen to when your driving on a rainy night, it just kind of fits that scenario. when i listen to this album i feel like i'm in the middle of a deserted and dark country road at night with trees all around me with snowflakes pelting my face. weird, huh? neways, this album is a superb emo album and if you haven't checked it out, do it....i promise you won't regret it. make sure you also check out their new album "what to do when you're dead". each song goes in order like a story: it all starts with a man who commits suicide in the first song then he realizes he made a mistake and he wants to come back to life but he can't and his feelings of lost relationships and heartache are depicted through all the songs. very deep. it's a little more rock influenced than this album but it is amazing as well. back to this album: if you like dreamy emo music with meaning check this one out. every song is incredible but i would have to say the standouts are "my town", "dream to make believe", "slip like space", "front porch and frostbites", and "the wanderer's guild", and "being your walls". i know i've written a novel here but i think this band is incredible and they make music for the right reasons. just buy their albums and support these guys, they are down to earth and cool as hell.

Okay, first off, this album is diverse in many ways. Lyrically and Musically it can easily surpass most of the emo bands out there. Each song clearly has been put a 100% effort into. There are no filler tracks on this album, what stands out most are Ben Jorgenson's metaphorical, but straight-forward lyrics. Despite his metaphors he makes it so simple that anyone can understand what he is talking about. Also, knowing that the singer went through all the stuff he writes about just adds to the emotion you feel when you listen to the songs. Heres a review of the tracks individually:

1. Armor For Sleep (n/a): just an instrumental track

2. Dream To Make Believe (9/10): This song is so awesome, its unbelieveable. Ben is talking about him having no friends, so he has to dream to make believe he does. Its a great song on the first listen, but gets old after hearing it multiple times.

3. All Warm (10/10): This song is so catchy. I got goosebumps when he recites "Trust Me I Would Build A World, A World For You"...personally I would prefer the demo version of this song, but thats just IMO.

4. Being Your Walls (9.5/10): Another great song that is incredibly catchy. Has a great bass line in the verse. Again I prefer the demo version of this song over the CD version.

5. My Town (10/10): Now this is the song that got me into Armor For Sleep! This song IMO is the catchiest soong on the album. Also to add, the music video of this song is fantastic!

6. The Wanderer's Guild (10/10): Great chorus "Listen I'm fine now...I dont want to talk right now thank you for your concern"...I think this song is about being upstairs when the party is downstairs, and having a friend try to cheer you up, but you are just not in the mood.

7. Frost And Front Steps (9/10): Again the lyrics in this song are amazing, not to mention great guitar and bass. This song, I think, is about choosing if you want to leave the party and your friends or not to.

8. Phantoms Now (8/10): This song is great, but I dont think it can compete with the rest of the cd, it just come up short. Also i dont really understand the intent of the song, although the music is really good.

9. Raindrops (8.5/10): Again like Phantoms Now this song is great but it is just not good enough competing against the rest of the CD. The lyrics are genius and the chorus is super catchy.

10. Kinf Of Perfect (9/10): Incredible. A perfect example of Ben Jorgenson's subtle emotion he shows. The lyrics once again are great.

11. Slip Like Space (10/10): Definetely one of the stand-out tracks on the CD. The demo version of this song is spectacular. The tone, mood, and feeling of this song gives me the chills. "This planet wasnt made for me, all of you live so easy, I lay outside and up I stare, my home is in the void up there". It's breathtaking.

Overall, you NEED this CD in your collection if your a fan of soft emotional music. Don't hesitate to buy. Do it now! You will not regret it.

Armor for Sleep is one of those few bands that catch your attention from beginning to end. I first got the CD with not much to look forward to; I basically just needed something to listen to in the car and I had remembered a friend telling me about them. I am so grateful that my friend mentioned their name, because this album is truely amazing.

Starting off with a soothing yet capturing intro, you can tell that the rest of the experience will be full of raw emotion. Armor isn't the type of band that screams "i hate the world! everything just sucks!" like any other typical "emo" band. They have more of a mellow sound, and when you listen to it, you almost feel bad for the boys. It's a really easy album to relate to; my personal favourites are Frost and Front Steps and Slip like Space. Each portray the feelings when someone doesn't really feel accepted. This being my example, AFS has a way of connecting with the listeners by singing about true emotions, not just how it feels to make love for the first time or the biggest break up of your life.

The music itself is pretty well done, considering this was the first album ever produced by AFS. The band has collaborated tight riffs with a rougher feel in almost every song, but it really stands out in All Warm and Frost and Front Steps. The drums play a big part as well, adding to the intensity in songs such as Being Your Walls and My Town. Ben's voice adds a definite part in the music, not nessicarily giving off a whining sound, but more of a passionate feel. You can tell right off the bat that he's singing with his soul, not just his vocal chords.

Armor for Sleep is a real band, not wanting attention for their good looks, but just hoping that someone will be able to sympathize with them on how it feels to grow up and become what you never wanted to be. And I think that the one goal a band should have is to connect with the audience on a personal level, which is exactly what these guys did on this album.
