This review is from: A Dream of Passion: The Development of the Method (Paperback)
Probably the most famous acting teacher in modern times. I think this book is a necessary read for any actor, teacher, director. I've read and heard so much controversy over this man. It's fascinating to read about his journey. Some of the stereotypes of his method are crushed in this book. I have to respect these teachers who devoted their lives to finding some kind of answer for their students and actors everywhere. Strasberg, Adler, Meisner, Lewis, Hagen. Even if you don't agree with his ideas or techniques it is an extremely interesting read on the evolution of theater in this country.

We have been told to never judge a book by it's cover, this saying goes true with A Dream of Passion as well. I was told to read this book by many aspiring and already successful actors alike, and on the outside the book doesn't seem like much at all. But on the inside it's a completely different story. Highly recommended read, my thanks to the shipper who got my copy to me in an instant and in amazing condition!

Before any further detail, it should be clearly said if you are not deeply interested in theater, you will not be interested in this book. However, for those of you, like myself, who could not escape the theater, even if you tried, this book would be welcome in your collection. Regardless of your take on method acting, this book can offer great insight for anyone looking to study Strasberg, the Method, a life in the theater or improve on their own technique. Depending on your interest level at the time, it can be a bit wordy, but it is well worth the read.

Another must have for any actors library. Provides an explination and makes sense of all the crazy things we do as actors. A great theory which gives you lots of things to think about.

Bought this as a supplement for actors in a play I'm helping to produce. This guy may have been a pioneer in his time, but he can't write. Completely redundant, awful, repetitive, crap. You can learn more about method acting in a wiki article.

Firstly, if you are not truly devoted to acting, you will not find this book all that interesting. But if you are a Method devotee, then you will find much info & interesting anecdotes here.
