an expansive review of the field of dream studies,
By spiegler@suba.com (Chicago, IL) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Dream Reader (Suny Series, Dream Studies) (Paperback)
This book is an interesting, intelligent and all encompassing overview of the field of dream studies. This is not the New Age pablum that some might fear because of the area of focus, but is rather a serious scientific and cultural analysis of dream studies in recent times. As someone who doesn't know alot about the field I enjoyed it, and I think it would be interesting for those already well read in the area as well.

Very informative, but too much focus on outdated psychoanalysis,
This review is from: Dream Reader (Suny Series, Dream Studies) (Paperback)
I found this book informative as it was detailed on the interesting subjects of sleep physiology, dream incubation, and lucid dreaming. It is unique in that it contains an academic discussion of incubation and lucidity without being too New Agey. However, the author focused much of the book on psychoanalysis, which is widely considered pseudoscience and outdated.

Not at all what I wanted.....,
This review is from: Dream Reader (Suny Series, Dream Studies) (Paperback)
I wanted a dream explainer as described 'dream reader', and what I've got was a lot of scientific info about dreams.
