If you like trance, techno, or new age, read on, February 28, 2000
This review is from: Dream Remixes (Audio CD)
This cd of remixed Tangerine Dream tracks is unique in that it doesn't seem to fit into any one existing musical genre. Although this really should be considered a strength, its "not this, not that" quality will probably cause many people to pass it by, which is too bad. Those who are seeking a traditionally atmospheric Tangerine Dream "new age" sound may find this music too funked-up and pounding; those who are looking for build-and-breaks progressive trance may find it too "new age ethereal." And those who are looking for something "techno" may find the entire sound too polished and melodic. However, if fans of ANY musical style(s) are willing to stretch their tastes just a bit (the "out of the box" cliche may apply here), there is much to appreciate in *The Dream Mixes*. This cd combines the musical creativity of Tangerine Dream with an upbeat, trancey feel, and the result is a fabulous sixty-seven minutes of music. Give it a try!

Better than a lot of popular "techno" out there, January 16, 2002
This review is from: Dream Remixes (Audio CD)
Give this an extra star if you're a Tangerine Dream fan. To the general listener, especially if you heard it about 6 years ago, this sounds exactly like what Robert Miles was doing with his big hit "Children". As a matter of fact, when I heard that song I thought for a moment that it was TD remixed.
There are new and old tracks on here, meaning TD has mixed some recent material (from the Tyranny of Beauty album, for instance) as well as crafted some slick new tracks. There are some good, driving tracks here, perfect car stereo stuff. Also some great treatments of tunes like Catwalk.
This album may definitely sound dated now, but it's still a nice aside from TD. Hard to classify it really. Sounds like very simple, melodic techno, often more ambient than pounding. Again, if you like Robert Miles' more popular stuff, this is good, if not better. Yes, a cheese factor, and just a tremendous mullet on Jerome Froese.

Energy, March 10, 2000
This review is from: Dream Remixes (Audio CD)
I have about 25 TD CD's and this one is near the top of the heap. Energy is the word, and this CD delivers. I had it on my employers voice mail system as the 'on-hold-music' for about 6 weeks. It was removed after a few callers commented that it made them 'feel nervous.' This music is a testament to the depth and creativity of Edgar Froese, his son, and their crew. Great stuff.
