5.0 out of 5 stars If you like trance, techno, or new age, read on
This cd of remixed Tangerine Dream tracks is unique in that it doesn't seem to fit into any one existing musical genre. Although this really should be considered a strength, its "not this, not that" quality will probably cause many people to pass it by, which is too bad. 3.0 out of 5 stars Better than a lot of popular "techno" out there
Give this an extra star if you're a Tangerine Dream fan. To the general listener, especially if you heard it about 6 years ago, this sounds exactly like what Robert Miles was doing with his big hit "Children". As a matter of fact, when I heard that song I thought for a moment that it was TD remixed.

This cd of remixed Tangerine Dream tracks is unique in that it doesn't seem to fit into any one existing musical genre. Although this really should be considered a strength, its "not this, not that" quality will probably cause many people to pass it by, which is too bad. Those who are seeking a traditionally atmospheric Tangerine Dream "new age" sound may find this music too funked-up and pounding; those who are looking for build-and-breaks progressive trance may find it too "new age ethereal." And those who are looking for something "techno" may find the entire sound too polished and melodic. However, if fans of ANY musical style(s) are willing to stretch their tastes just a bit (the "out of the box" cliche may apply here), there is much to appreciate in *The Dream Mixes*. This cd combines the musical creativity of Tangerine Dream with an upbeat, trancey feel, and the result is a fabulous sixty-seven minutes of music. Give it a try!

Give this an extra star if you're a Tangerine Dream fan. As a matter of fact, when I heard that song I thought for a moment that it was TD remixed.

There are new and old tracks on here, meaning TD has mixed some recent material (from the Tyranny of Beauty album, for instance) as well as crafted some slick new tracks. There are some good, driving tracks here, perfect car stereo stuff. Also some great treatments of tunes like Catwalk.

This album may definitely sound dated now, but it's still a nice aside from TD. Hard to classify it really. Sounds like very simple, melodic techno, often more ambient than pounding. Again, if you like Robert Miles' more popular stuff, this is good, if not better. Yes, a cheese factor, and just a tremendous mullet on Jerome Froese.

5.0 out of 5 stars Energy, March 10, 2000

I have about 25 TD CD's and this one is near the top of the heap. Energy is the word, and this CD delivers. I had it on my employers voice mail system as the 'on-hold-music' for about 6 weeks. It was removed after a few callers commented that it made them 'feel nervous.' This music is a testament to the depth and creativity of Edgar Froese, his son, and their crew. Great stuff.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not that great, October 24, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Dream Remixes (Audio CD)
Well, this is decent, if dated, trance/progressive music. Having not heard the originals from which these songs are based, the only real critsism I can give is that of a fan of this sort of music--and in that case, this is a dissapointment. The first song is pretty good, a wash of synths and beats, but after that every song sounds very similar...too similar...as if they recycled the synths for every song. I can't conclude without a few examples of mixes where this sort of music is pulled off with glorious effect: check out Sasha and Digweed's _Northern Exposure_ and _Northern Exposure: East Coast_ albums for trance and pH blended to the utmost degree, or some Renaissance Worldwide imports (pricy but worth it).

4.0 out of 5 stars Tangerine Dream and techno: perfect combination, July 23, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Dream Remixes (Audio CD)
At first when I saw this CD, I thought that this was a CD of an accomplished group remixed by DJ's to get some quick recognition and a few extra dollars in their wallet. I hesitently bought it though and to my surprise this disc is remixed by Edgar and Jerome themselves! And the result is a pleasent surprise. It's not just a collection of well known tracks from the Miramar label with a techno beat added. They actually make an upbeat dancable music that still has that TD sound. Interestingly enough some might say a more vintage-modern TD sound. Included are 4 previously unreleased tracks. My favorite from those is "Virtually Fields", an adventurous track that upon listening, can make one imagine of strapping on the VR helmet, and taking a ride into the wild places your imagination can take you. TD have proven that they not only can keep up with the times, but still sound good doing it. Also worth getting is the Import Double CD version with the second CD fe! aturing radio edited tracks, new remixed tracks (my personal fav is the "Poison Byte" mix of "Touchwood" where they use a sample of Darth Vader saying "Power to the dark side!!!". And two new tracks ("Sojus" excellent track.)

4.0 out of 5 stars Tangerine Dream - 'The Dream Mixes' (Miramar), November 25, 2006
This review is from: Dream Remixes (Audio CD)
Basically, ten tracks that are remixes of songs that Tangerine Dream has on their 'Rockoon'('92) and 'Tyranny Of Beauty'('95)efforts.Reason I'm giving this CD a four-star rating is because I thought it was just SO well put together.Cuts I liked best were the dream-like "Little Blond","Virtually Fields",the somewhat hypnotic "San Rocco" and "Changes Of The Gods".Top rate '90's techno-meets new age.Not a bad pick.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Workout tunes, May 10, 2002
This review is from: Dream Remixes (Audio CD)
I've always compiled my own workout music. Great beats and a smooth flow from one cut to the next are a must. I purchased this CD ona recomendation for just that purpose, a great solid background for working out. It is that in spades. Each and every cut is superb and I find it hard to believe I have a new favorite workout disk right off the shelf.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must have for any New Age or Ambient Techno fan!!, May 20, 1999
This review is from: Dream Remixes (Audio CD)
A perfect blend of techno beats, vintage TD analog synth sounds and ambient textures. Sophisticated production with catchy, easy to follow melodies. You'll probably hate it if you're big fan of old TD stuff, but I love this CD!! TD's best work to date!!

I was pulled in by the artwork of the album. As far as the music, it's surreal. Each song tells a different story. I'm longing for another CD like "The Dream Mixes"!!
