True Story of Bruce Jennings,
By
This review is from: Dream Rider (DVD)
Dreamrider is the touching and inspiring story of Bruce Jennings, younger brother of my old buddy, Willie Jennings. We all lived in Fullerton,CA and the film gets it right - Bruce had courage enough to share. Adventurous, determined and wiry, his energy made him a standout kind of kid. Bill Brown, Fullerton filmmaker, obviously takes great care in his projects and did a masterful job on this story. At Captain Blood's Theater I had the opportunity to thank him personally for all the dedication and love he lavished on this movie. What can I say... see it.

The Triumph of the Human Spirit,
By
This review is from: Dream Rider [VHS] (VHS Tape)
James Earl Jones delivers a masterful performance in this film based on a true story. Jones, by administering "tough love", helps a young athlete recover his will to live after suffering a debilitating injury. Unlike so many movies of this genre, Dream Rider does not suffer from cloying sentimentality. Rather, it is an inspiring story which realistically depicts what it takes to recover from the emotional and physical distress of a serious setback. This is a "must see" for anyone who has encountered a serious injury or any family member or friend of such a person.

An inspring movie depicting the possibilities that can happen in modern-day America. Filmed in my hometown of Fullerton, CA this movie captures the hearts of common everyday Americans who just need a good flick to see on a Saturday night. James Earl Jones, as impressive as usual, plays the character of an old retiree living in a convalescent home who inspires the main character "Bruce Jennings" to ride a bicycle from Fullerton, CA to Boston, MA in spite of his injuries from a motorcycle accident. I reccomend this movie for high school athletes, and all other ambitious people who are willing to watch a great movie.

This is definitely a 'feel good' story. It is one the whole family can enjoy together. I highly recommend this for the younger crowd because it shows how a person can overcome unbelievable odds and still fulfill a dream. Nice to watch a movie without killings, violence and the seedier side of life.

Life imitates art,
By Thomas D. Kiley (Hillsborough, CA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Dream Rider [VHS] (VHS Tape)
In this true and stirring tale of loss and redemption a young Southern California man loses a leg to a drunken driver. With the heartwarming encouragement of the physical therapist masterfully played by James Earl Jones, he sets out to bicycle across America. Paired with Jones in this uplifting tale of tragedy and triumph is Matt Geriak, an Olympic parathelete, also from California. In a classic case of life imitating art, Geriak lost his leg to cancer and went to complete his doctorate in pharmacology, while making his Hollywood debut. Seeing this young athlete reprise the story of his character in the film while knowing how hard won was his method acting makes watching Dream Rider all the more inspiring.

"Christian" Dream Rider?,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Dream Rider (DVD)
Perhaps the producer(s) of this film had the intention
of preaching christianity with this film. The film started with a kiss and then ended with a kiss in a church premises between two un-married adults, could this be the way of Jesus, the son of Mary, the Messenger of God? To the film proper, it's about having two fatal accidents, becoming seriously handicapped and still aiming for a dream, about how to prepare to achieve it.... |
