300,000 years from now, human spirits called Phelastians are finally making peace with ape-like creatures called Dwellers. Formality requires that a twenty-first century Earthling be present as witness to the treaty. A Phelastian travels back in time and recruits Whitmore Middle School’s newest student, Jamie Richards. When a Dweller overlord sabotages the celestial link connecting Jamie to her own world, she vanishes from the signing, crumbling the negotiations, and sending her on a series of mind-bending, alternate-reality adventures. Can Jamie save trillions of lives, prevent a war that has already occurred, and stop herself from meeting her self, all while attempting to stabilize creation and find her way home?
Dream Traveler is about a tomboy teenage girl who is selected to witness a peace treaty taking place 300,000 years into the future.
The story is an intriguing look at the course of humanity after our Sun has supernovaed. The author presents an interesting theory on time travel and a mechanism through which this can be achieved.
I decided against giving a five star because I don't feel the characters have been fleshed out. The mother in particular feels like a prop, existing only to give permission to leave the house.
The story at times seems complicated because of the existence of alternate realities, and it takes time for the reader to follow along. But the author tries to spell it all out eventually, allowing all the pieces to fall into place.
Dream Traveler is an interesting story recommended to readers of time and reality traveling genres.
