Great music, awful lyrical fragments, June 10, 2008
This review is from: Dream Triggers (Audio CD)
Magic Sense, the first album, was a tremendous work. There were a couple of times where a few detached, etheral-sort of lyrics appeared to nearly wreck the individual track. In Dream Triggers, Chilled C'Quence goes overboard and nearly wrecks the entire CD.
The music is great, but there are four songs that are infected by this nonsense. For example, the song UHC. Great piece...then about 1/2 way through it, a male voice narrates "What is it about the Universal Human Condition that makes some people do blah blah blah, and blah blah blah." Then the song engages for a couple of minutes when distorted again by a modulated voice in a drawn out "Uuuuunnnniiiiiveeerrrrrsaaalll Huuuuuuuuumannnn Connnnndiiiiitiiioooonn." It completely destroys the song, the cadence, the flow and .... just awful. Same thing happens on Cell State -- you're just jumping with the music and then suddenly the etheral irritating female voice tells you that there's this real interesting thing that people's body cells regenerate every seven years and well, blah blah blah.
It will be hard to seriously consider a third offering by Chilled C'Quence. Such a disappointment.
My Two-Star rating might be too high...
