Strong Male Vocalist,
By TXFireFighter "Mark" (Kendall County, Texas United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Dream Walkin (Audio CD)
Ever since Toby Keith first made his debut, his strong, sensual voice has struck a chord with country music fans the world over. In Dream Walkin', Toby displays his talent at ballads, his voice sinking to the far depths of your soul. The sadness in his voice is a testimony to the hardships he has faced throughout the years, and helps you connect on a personal level with the singer. This CD also puts on display his comedic side, with "Double Wide Paradise" and "I Don't Understand My Girlfriend"...which most of us men can surely all relate to. It's easy to see (or hear) why Toby continues climbing the charts with all his singles, and you'll gain a fuller appreciation for the spectrum he can accomplish by attaining this CD.

No "Dream Walkin'" for Toby in this one!,

It is the real thing! Toby has a great knack for telling stories in his songs and it shows in "Dream Walkin'", "She Ran Away With A Rodeo Clown" (TK's sense of humor is apparent in this one and "I Don't Understand My Girlfriend") and "Jacky Don Tucker". Then he turns right around and pulls at your heart strings with "Yet" and "Strangers Again". Personal favorite, it's tough but "We Were In Love" wins out! Keep singing Toby, that baritone voice of yours rocks!

Toby Keith can not only sing great, but can write songs like no other! I think his song writing stands out from other songwriters music and has its own sound that is great! He should get a whole lot of more credit then he does! I think it so odd that he isn't ever nominated as top male artist. He blows allot of other country male artists away! This album is just another example of how great he is. The first time I heard "We Were In Love", I just melted! He did great on that one! And "Tired" is different and easy for allot of people can relate to. "Dream Walkin" was different as well that had catchy lyrics on it. I am without a doubt a hugh Toby Keith fan and very proud of this and all of his albums!!!

Refreshing true to life music!,

As a country morning show personality, I play all kinds of music by all the country stars. After a while, they seem to just become background. I enjoy getting free CD's, too. This album, I bought. I gave my free copy away to a friend. "I'm So Happy" is worth the cost alone. I'm a single dad and can relate to the feelings in this great duet with Sting. Buy it for your collection. Toby's a superstar!

The most innovative / creative album of Keith's,
By Fireball "Fireball_SP2" (Toronto) - See all my reviews

After a few albums that were more thna pretty fair, he concludes his work with Mercury Records with a bang. 'Dream Walkin' has muscle of a songwriter and a musician, with heart.Perhaps the most interesting on the album here, is 'We Were In Love'. Looking in the past, when love was forever young, he builds up his vocals in such a tall order, and as his voice is strong and powerful, it does also smooth out to a softer man. 'Dream Walkin' has great guitar character, following again by his patient style, not rushing his vocals through. The reality of just how hard life can get is 'Tired'. Perhaps as good as 'We Were In Love'...just so different. The acoustic gutiar is gloomy, like a rainy day, with no sun in sight. My brother and I have a thing for 'Double Wide Paradise', a real good rocker. Not as good as thought is 'I'm So Happy I Can't Stop Crying'. His duet with Sting isn't the duet or song that the Brit man made himself before joining up with the big cowboy. Overall, all of the songs carry Keith high. A lot of this album seems to let out all sides of Keith and it's perfect timing since his label decided to leave him out in the cold after this one. Now they're crying, with his last three albums selling much better than all his others. Still, this is his strongest writing and best innovation.

Toby Keith - Dream Walkin',
By Xavier Bernard (Belgium) - See all my reviews

This is a top rate CD! His deep low voice works best on the ballads and this album's well filled with them. "You Don't Anymore", "Strangers Again", "Tired", and "Yet" are wonderful he sings those ballads quite effectively. Toby Keith also rocks well on "Jacky Don Tucker" with its tongue-in-cheek lyrics and lines like "He even cut a donut on the courthouse lawn". On the radio-friendly side, "We Were In Love" is a well-constructed tune with low verses and a growing chorus. Quite effective. Then we have "Dream Walkin'", a mid-tempo ditty that could be considered as the album's less effective song but Toby lifts it up above the average level with his passionate rendition. The duet with Sting, "I'm So Happy" is about two friends talkin' about one's divorce. Nice lyrics but Sting sounds like a fish out of water compared to Toby's voice. At the end of the album, we have a good swingin' tune, "I Don't Understand My Girlfriend", with funny lyrics about a guy trying his best to please his girlfriend but always ends up makin' a mistake. If you don't own anything by Toby Keith, this is a good place to start.

After buying Toby Keith's Biggest Hits album and finding a new appreciation for his older works I decided to buy one of his earlier CDs and chose 'Dream Walkin'' because it had the song 'Tired' on it which I wanted. I have found that I have fallen in love with many of Keith's songs that have not been released which can be rare for an artist sometimes and 'Dream Walkin'' did not disappoint. Apart from the songs I'd already heard, 'We Were In Love' (which is great for hearing the power in Keith's voice), 'Dream Walkin'' (my favourite Keith song), 'Tired' (which is brilliant), and his duet with Sting 'I'm So Happy I Can't Stop Crying', there are others that are instant hits like 'Double Wide Paradise' and 'Yet'. The more Toby albums I buy the more I fall in love with the work of this talented and diverse artist. While it probably won't be one of my favourite albums of his it is still worth having and enjoyable from track one to end.
