Editorial Reviews

Produced by David Foster, Jackie Evancho’s Dream With Me fulfills the promise of O Holy Night, Jackie's major label debut, a seasonal collection which became 2010's #1 best-selling debut recording with sales exceeding 1 million units. Dream with Me features a repertoire of classical arias and pop classics handpicked to suit Jackie’s angelic voice. Her range is so great that she ably shifts from the Disney classic “When You Wish Upon A Star” to Puccini’s “Nessun Dorma.” Other highlights include two extraordinary superstar duets showcasing the young vocalist performing with music legend Barbra Streisand ("Somewhere" from West Side Story) and international phenomenon Susan Boyle ("A Mother’s Prayer") The album is produced by the legendary David Foster, a sixteen-time Grammy winner (including three Producer of the Year trophies) who has worked with Celine Dion, Josh Groban, Michael Bublé, Beyoncé, Prince, Barbra Streisand and many others. “I can say without a doubt that working with Jackie on Dream With Me was truly phenomenal. Her natural ability and the depth of her understanding of the musical process left me speechless. I think we have created a musical experience that will thrill audiences of every age. She was a pure joy to work with and I had a front row seat to one of the next great talents of our time,” said David Foster.

5.0 out of 5 stars Miraculous June 14, 2011
Format:MP3 Music
I recall the chills I got when I first heard the 11-year-old Michael Jackson sing "I Want You Back." Here was a performer with all of the soul, talent, and musicality of an enormously gifted adult in the body of a child.

I have a similar thrill every time I listen to the angelic Jackie Evancho, a young prodigy with unlimited potential in both classical and popular genres. Regardless of how many times I've seen her television debut on "America's Got Talent" or her performances on YouTube, whether she's singing "Silent Night" with the Canadian Tenors or "The Star-Spangled Banner" a cappella at a hockey stadium in her hometown of Pittsburgh, I still shake my head in amazement.

Find and watch the short online videos from the Great Performances special "Dream with Me in Concert." Premiering on PBS, it's Jackie's first solo concert, featuring full orchestra and chorus and producer-arranger David Foster at the piano. Try not to be stunned by the perfect poise and preternatural professionalism of this 11-year-old lyric soprano as she covers Sarah McLachlan's song "Angel." She's only been singing for three years, yet it's clear that Jackie not only feels the music coursing through her; she comprehends the technical aspects of its production and understands how to make it seem effortless.

All the songs on "Dream with Me," Jackie's first full-length album, have the same power and purity as "Angel." I take special pleasure in the way she sings opera arias like "Nessun Dorma" (from Puccini's "Turandot"), "O Mio Babbino Caro" (from Puccini's "Gianni Schicchi"), and "Ombra Mai Fu" (from Handel's "Serse"). She demonstrates flawless diction and phrasing, an astoundingly mature tone, and pitch-perfect vibrato.

5.0 out of 5 stars Masterful album demands an instant replay June 14, 2011
By Haydon
Format:Audio CD
Being a UK admirer of Jackie's voice, I've had the pleasure of living with this album for more than a week (it was released to coincide with BGT).
To say it grows on you is an understatement. To hear these songs together as in one concert-like experience is a joy that leads to repeated playings.

Her voice is, of course, superb on all these tracks. What I have never appreciated, until now though, was the musical mastery of producer/arranger, David Foster. This album is assured instrumentally, but it is a masterpiece of sequencing. Every song seems to be in its right place flowing perfectly into the next. (He didn't fall into what might be the obvious trap of putting Nessun Dorma last).

It starts with the childlike optimism of When You Wish Upon a Star and follows a contrasting path through Jackie's world of arias, duets, pop, show and film songs.

It seems to get more about Jackie as it reaches the final three or four songs (the ones least known by fans). I haven't seen a translation of Imaginer, but when the piano starts to play it's hard not to give in to the emotion this piece evokes. The beauty of this melody, the playing, her voice, the Rachmaninov-like interlude and the Morricone-like finish are breathtaking.

When she sings The Lord's Prayer you know she is singing from her heart. From then on you feel that Jackie is expressing her thoughts and hopes as Every-child through the last two songs, To Believe and Dream With Me (which she co-wrote).
It is altogether very moving and almost demands an instant replay.

In a recent interview Jackie Evancho claimed, "I'm basically living the dream and that there's more to come." Perhaps if she were simply a big fish in a small pond that would be unrealistic, however, for a young woman who had was the "top selling Debut Artist of 2010," the statement has a ring of truth to it that many of us hope comes true. "O Holy Night," which came out in November if 2010, easily achieved platinum status for Jackie, a so called "soprano prodigy." Little could anyone know that it all began in 2008 when her mother bought her the "Phantom of the Opera" DVD and Jackie began to sing. It's simply the stuff that legends are made of. In this case, a music legend in the making.

David Foster, the producer of this album, an extremely accomplished man in his own right having garnered sixteen Grammy Awards for his work, says that Jackie "tackled this gigantic piece of music and in my opinion she totally pulled it off." Anyone who has heard this album or will hear it in the future, no doubt will agree with him. His talents and ability to mentor her are undoubtedly helping her talent emerge and will soar her to new heights.

One of the things that appealed to me was the mix of genres, something that will not "type cast" her to a larger audience. There are two duets with the much beloved superstars, Barbra Streisand, and Susan Boyle. Both are awe inspiring and the blend of an innocent, but magnificent voice of a prodigy with that of a more mature artist is quite telling. I feel that her voice is subtly maturing and becoming stronger (slowly, but it is perceptible). The promise of her becoming a superstar will be evident to the listener. Either one of these duets is worth the entire price of this album, but I bought it because of all three artists.

What are your favorite quotes about Jackie?
I like the statement someone on these forums made recently (not me):

"She will be using Grammy awards as doorstops by the time she is 15."

The language of it is simple, to the point, and (I believe) accurate. It paints a picture that many paragraphs of hyperbole probably would not... Read more

Ehkzu is right.
We need to deliberately spread the Jackie word. We need to counteract the totally superficial "sexy" flash of someone like Jessie J ("Price Tag" on Jimmy Kimmel: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ztF5hRQz54&feature=feedu) to get Jackie the Best New Artist... Read more

it's kinda funny, I remember someone saying this thread would die a quick death way back in discussion #1, and I said it would continue long after the release. Lol well here we are about to embark on another chapter. It's been fun, entertaining and above all informative. May the posts be with you!

Dealing with Jackie's naysayers

Whuf! That was the humiliating knockout punch! Congratulations on a superb rebuttal. No response is possible. He'll have to tuck his tail between his legs and slink away ... or more likely, get on his belly and slither away.
