Editorial Reviews

2009 release from the Melodic Rock/AOR outfit featuring one bonus track. On The Rise debuted in 2002 with an album that took the Melodic Rock world by storm. Thanks to some amazing vocal harmonies, reminiscent of Toto and Nelson, they were able to create a milestone record which is still highly regarded today. Now, the band is back, still lead by Terje Eide (singer and main songwriter). Songwriting duties were split by Terje with Christian Wolff (Mecca) and you can expect another amazing AOR milestone: a real must for fans of Toto, Nelson and Boston.

"On the rise" is the melodic rock/AOR solo project of guitarist/vocalist Terje Eide with the support of drummer Eric Engebretsen while keyboard duties are covered by guest appearances by Eric Ragno and Christian Wolff.
I guess that when it comes to AOR/melodic rock releases, "Frontiers records" has a pretty good ear, offering quite a number of quality AOR albums each year. And "Dream Zone" is no exception. What perhaps needs to be clarified is that "On the Rise" is overall, guitar driven melodic rock; hence although not a heavy album, the release is based on up front guitars, plethora of guitar riffs and rather technical six string solos. In addition Terje's vocal performance is subtle and discrete, relying on solid songwriting rather than flamboyant singing.

I have to say that the album holds no surprises in particular, (which is not a bad thing). From the first song it becomes clear that the protagonist on "Dream Zone" is the guitar and the rest of the album follows in the same fashion offering some solid compositions/tracks: "Lifeline", "Dream Zone", "In the line of fire", "Get out of here", "Fly away" are personal favorites but really there is not a band song on this album for an AOR fan.

Finally "Dream zone" is a very cohesive release, while the 13 tracks on offer here certainly make this a complete and satisfactory package for anyone demanding a full dose of fresh melodic rock.

4.0 out of 5 stars Solid Toto-infused melodic rock album! September 1, 2010
By Michael
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
On The Rise had a killer debut album a few years ago and Dream Zone is their long-awaited follow-up and it seems that the magic and quality is still there. This album is dominated by excellent guitar playing in the style of Steve Lukather and Tommy Denander and very high quality songwriting. The production is crystal clear and polished and the vocals are melodic and layered. Highlights include the upbeat melodic vocals of "Lifeline", the high impact chorus of "Get Out Of Here", the Toto-ish "No Time To Lose", and the great guitar riffs and solos of "Tomorrow Never Dies". This is one of the strongest pure melodic rock albums of recent times and is highly recommended to fans of 80's styled melodic rock.
