Book Description

June 25, 1996

Dream Conversations is a collection of a renowned Japanese master's written replies to questions about the true nature of Zen. In short, simply worded teachings, Muso Kokushi (1275-1351), also known as Muso Soseki, exposes common misconceptions with unprecedented clarity, offering psychological insights designed to lead the reader into the depths of authentic Zen experience. These incisive teachings will be especially valuable for today's Zen students, as they struggle with their own confusion and misunderstandings about the true path of Zen.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the clearest writings on Zen, September 14, 2000
By A Customer
Zen teaching by definition is often very difficult to understand. Some teachers are better at explaining the unexplainable than others. Muso and this translation are much easier to read than most and the small volume is full of pointers to the fundamental.

If you have been frustrated by reading some Zen books and thought that something must have been missed in the translation or that the writing was just so much nonsense, try this book.

You still may need some help from another to help with some of the passages, but careful study of the text will reveal everything you need to know on your journey to where your already are.

5.0 out of 5 stars Extraordinary book. Sections on sitting are unmatched., July 23, 1996
By A Customer
This review is from: Dream conversations: On Buddhism and Zen (Paperback)
Cleary is one of the important translators of our time, without question. His work and the texts he selects are very helpful to people working with attention and sensation. Several of his translations are of difficult texts (Dogen comes to mind) but this one is very intense, brief, clear and alive.
