Review
"In addition to group work, the DreamQuest Cards are valuable to the solitary Dreamworker. These cards deserve to be on the bedside table of everyone serious about their dreams - even if they usually use another method. I am very grateful to the developers of this unique, easy to use and very enjoyable tool." --
Tom Goad, Facilitator, Nashville Dream Awareness Circle"Operating on the theory of synchronicity, the themes represented on the cards selected tend to be highly reflective of the Dreamer's most singificant life events or issues, and so can provide a meaningful opportunity for personal revelation in a gentle, non-intrusive way." --

A REAL DREAM READING USING THE "PLOT" CARD
"The Eye Glasses Caper"
The Dream:
I had been talking to a short, thin man with bad teeth while walking through a large hotel mezzanine. When I arrived to a hall area outside a room that was my destination, I realized that I didn't have my glasses on. I remembered then that I had removed them while lying down in a bus shelter outside a medic clinic waiting with my co-worker to see a doctor for a job requirement. This bus shelter was located a long way back through the complex from the hallway I was now in with the thin man.
The trigger which reminded me about my glasses was seeing a group of six or seven women just finishing up their exercise class leave behind three pairs of eye glasses on the floor beside a stacking chair. I realized that three of the women must have removed their glasses for the exercise class and had forgotten them. I put the glasses up on the chair so they wouldn't get broken and the women would see them when they returned to retrieve them.
I thought then about how I would have a long trek back to the bus shelter to retrieve my own. I anxiously hoped that no one had stepped on mine which I had left on the floor too.
Dreamwork Using the Plot Card
-----------------------------
To better understand the dream, the dreamer uses the questions of one of the DreamQuest Cards to examine its events and characters.
The Plot Card asks the dreamer the questions:
Imagine that your dream is a movie; what would be its title and theme?
What is the major conflict, challenge or calamity in your dream-movie?
Describe the weaknesses and strengths of your dream-movie characters.
Why did you cast these characters in their particular roles?
Rewrite any part of your dream-movie to make it more satisfying for you.
What is the central message of your dream-movie?
What part of your waking life does this dream-movie dramatize?
The major calamity in the dream was forgetting my eye glasses in a bus shelter where they could get removed or trampled. The challenge was getting back to the bus shelter in time to retrieve them which was a long distance to go.
The weaknesses and strengths in all of the female characters including myself was forgetfulness and vanity. I hadn't wanted the doctor to see me with my glasses on and the women were concerned too about their appearance. The weakness in the male character was his light stature and his bad teeth. The strengths in myself was caring for others (putting the other women's eye glasses up on the chair) and the women knew how to care for themselves - going to see a doctor in a clinic and doing the exercises to keep healthy. The strength in the man was knowing his work place well, being a good guide and being patient with me as I had to return to the bus shelter.
Picking the thin man for his role and the women for theirs meant that all the characters were performing "traditional" jobs for their sex. The man was acting like a maitre de or a concierge which is traditionally a male occupation and the women worked in the offices of the hotel and doing their morning exercises before work. The women were typically plump middle aged women like myself wearing glasses like myself and doing exercises like I do.
A re-write would be that as I am waiting to see the doctor I have only my mind on getting the task at hand accomplished rather than worrying about extraneous things like what he would think of me. I would also be waiting to see him in a more dignified position than the one I was in which was lying down sleeping in a bus shelter. This way I wouldn't have forgotten my glasses at all.
The central message is to remember what is important and keep your mind on what is important instead of relying on other people in traditional roles and doing one thing that is good for your body should not mean that you forget that you need to care for all your parts including your ability to see. Stay "focussed!"
In my waking life I had had an upsetting argument with a loved one and I had foolishly "lost sight" of my needs perhaps by letting vanity get in my way. I had been concerned about what he thought of me and became angry and defensive and acted very low and inappropriate. The bad teeth seem to point also to my "bad" way of expressing myself during the argument. The character in the dream was a similar body type to my loved one and his bad teeth may also be pointing out to me how he is not good at expressing himself either also he is not taking care of himself so he may not be a good guide for me.
