Hey Guys, I have to say that this is the official SEGA DREAMCAST mouse and it's a very good companion to your DC Keyboard which you can purchase at Amazon.com for a very good price ;) This mouse worked TERRIFIC for me with the DREAMCAST web browser, and all SEGA NET titles; such as Quake 3 arena...if you're ever online my handle is DVL..and good luck with your gaming guys.

Manufacturer's Description,

The official Dreamcast mouse has been produced for maximum accuracy and ease of use. It is ergonomically designed so that you can use it comfortably for hours. All you need to do is slot it into one of the controller ports on the front of the Dreamcast. Its design incorporates left and right mouse buttons and a central scrolling wheel for fast movement up and down the screen. Ideal for use with some of Sega's great on-line games such as Quake 3 Arena

The Dreamcast was one of the most innovative consoles ever: It had a lot of peripherals and accesories. Now, we are accustomed to have several gaming options on the new gaming consoles, beyond the normal controller.
Physically, the mouse is just a run-of-the-mill mechanical ball mouse like those that were used before optical and laser mice, so you better get your fingers ready to clean the ball and the rollers after playing for some days. It also contains a very useful scroll wheel, but it doesn't have any buttons so it feels a bit weird, and a third button of the left side of the mouse (maybe to compensate for lack of wheel button?). However, gamewise, it's a whole, whole new experience. Playing Quake III Arena (as featured on the mouse box) with the mouse is amazing. Just like the PC counterpart it works perfectly, and allows for really fluid gameplay and, although it takes up another gameport in the console (together with the keyboard or the controller) it's an excellent companion for that game. The japanese DreamPassport web browser is also compatible with the mouse, and allows the cursor to be controlled with it, bringing a near computer feel to the interface. PlanetWeb 2.0 isn't compatible, and I couldn't test PlanetWeb 2.6. There are several other games that can use the mouse, like Outtrigger and Rez (the latter is so fun I couldn't stop playing for hours!). Overall, it's a great addition to any Dreamcast collection, bringing a new world of possibilities and fun to your dear Dreamcast.

The mouse works great and is built sturdy. Even if you don't plan to use it for internet browsing, it works awesome for most Dreamcast FPSs. You can find some personally owned ISPs made especially for Dreamcast gaming around the net. Check it out and keep loving your Dreamcast.

A peice of history...,

I ordered my DC mouse almost solely for the collectors value. It may not be much, but not too many kids on the block have one. I grabbed a keyboard as well, and ready to play some FPS titles. The Dreamcast suffered hard for its lack of a second analog stick, but made up for it with its alternate input devices. DC fan? FPS fan? Collector? You might want to consider adding this to your collection!

SEGA.NET online play was killed June 10 for all titles except PSO and PSO ver.2That said, if you use the DC for web browsing (you still can, you need the browser disc and an ISP) it'd be a good choice. |
