International singing superstar Sarah Brightman is the world's biggest selling Soprano. Editorial Reviews

The first album in 6 years from the world's biggest selling soprano, Sarah Brightman is an international superstar as beloved for her staggering vocal range (over three full octaves) as for her impassioned film and stage performances. Brightman now directs her goals even higher. In addition to releasing an album, she is a part of a three-person crew travelling to the International Space Station on board a Soyuz rocket. Once on the ISS she intends to become the first professional musician to sing from space!

3.0 out of 5 stars Dreamchaser's Ups and Downs April 16, 2013
By S.S.

So I've been reading the many disapointments on here from other reviewers. Yes this is not what I thought it would be either. But is it horrible? No, is it awful sounding? No...actually its beautiful and ethereal, dreamy, thought provoking. I think the problem here is it all sounds the same, so many artists are making this mistake these days I dont know whats going on, Diana Krall's latest for instance, ick!!! But as for Dreamchaser theres no hook, no real song to sing except maybe One Day Like This. I can see why fans are not happy, but at the same time I do think there are things to be happy about with Dreamchaser when given a chance. I love Sarah Brightman and while somewhat sad about the lack of umph/effort here, (its just very movie soundtrackish with nothing known) I dont think it should be dissed quite so hard. Angel is well done, Ave Maria I think is my favorite, it should have had a different title though as people think its going to be the christmas version or something and its anything but. As for the rest of it, yeah its way too repetative, but it does grow on you. You just have to be in a soaring lullaby mood with spiriling planets in night space. There are too many middle songs though that just do nothing but float. Its like haunting ghosts in orbit hovering but not going anywhere. Its still not bad to listen to, but this is why fans are upset. We were so blown away by the whole Symphony and Winter Symphony epics that this is just not up to that par. Its like mashed potatoes but without the gravy. Oh Venus and Mars is a fairly nice track also as is Closer. Ps: Didnt she already do this space concept with the La Luna album?

I am thankful for Sarah Brightman, because she introduced me to opera with her "Time to say Goodbye" album. Since then, I have bought every single solo studio release. I even tracked down a few limited editions sold during her concerts containing collaboration with German artists like Schiller.

Dreamchaser is a mistake for me. I am certain the new direction Sarah is heading will gain her new legions of fans while losing her loyal fans. I am not entirely going to dismiss Sarah's evolution and artistry. I know better. I am a professional photographer and I know the importance of maturation and evolution. I respect and applaud Sarah for wanting to explore, weaving an aural tapestry around her space journey.

Gone is the operatic vocals and classical-crossover she made popular and proliferate for my generation--I am 32 at the time of review--and younger audience. Sarah inspires the young and younger generation to pursue classical music and not become the next pop tramp. Jackie Evancho looks up to Sarah. I just hope little Ms. Jackie does not rebel and follow in the steps of Charlotte Church. Ms. Church became a "hot mess" as she matured.

What am I talking about? This was suppose to be Sarah and her dream-chasing ambition of space travel. I digress.

It saddens me to rate Dreamchaser as a less than sub-par at 3 out of 5 stars. As a long time fan of Sarah since 1997, Dreamchaser is not her best. Her techno experimental "Fly" supersede the content and production on Dreamchaser.

Gone from the CD is Sarah's soprano and the classical-crossover productions made with Mr. Frank Peterson.

Gone from the CD is the enthrallment and positive anxiety of waiting for the perfect blend and hearing pleasures.

As a fan, I am disappointed.

As a fellow professional artist, I applaud her for wanting to explore styles external to her comfort zone, gathering new fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars Surprising ! April 16, 2013
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
I am a short time fan of miss Brightman. I found her in 2011. Her earlier albums are all in my collection, and I enjoy them all to varying degrees. It was her soaring crystalline soprano that first hooked me.
This album has none of that. Brightman is a musical adventurist. She often turns the corner of her career and completely changes her style of music. Being a musical interpreter, and not a composer allows her to be flexible. With this album she goes into orbit. The song selection was chosen by her to give the album a " space " feel to it. I had only heard of one song here before. The rest are a collection of , what seem to be off beat tunes that shouldn't be together in one room. However she pulls it off and makes each song completely her own unique blended vision. Many of Brightman's long time fans may not like this album. I've read some very harsh comments about the lack of her unique soprano voice. However, as stated before, she is anything but conventional in her musical tastes and choices, this is just another of her different faces.
Even though she's not a composer she's got dead center instincts. This may well be her best album to date. The songs are all intertwined with each other in a way that makes it seem like one long hour of song. The intricate weaving of orchestration, electronic sounds, and her beautiful voice are magical. several of the pieces on the album are mainly vocalise, with her voice becoming another instrument in the tapesrty of the music.l won't go into individual pieces here, others have done that. I'll just say, this is a brave attempt that should not work. However it does, wonderfully.
My only wish is that the haunting Hawaii 78 found only on the special editions such as Targets exclusive, were on the main release. Treat yourself and find this Beautiful duet with the late Hawaiian singer IZ.
