About the Author

Joanne Fedler is the founder of the Tshwaranang Legal Advocacy Centre, a group that advocates women's rights. She has worked as a legal consultant to many organizations and foundations and is the author of six books, including 25 Essential Things You Should Do Before Getting Married and Ideological Virgins and Other Myths: Six Principles for Legal Revisioning.

Joanne Fedler studied law at Yale and is a former women's rights advocate, counselor of abused women, and CEO of a not-for-profit advocacy centre. Her books have been published in the UK, Australia, Germany, Czechoslovakia, Croatia and South Africa. In Germany, Weiberabend (Secret Mothers' Business) was on Der Spiegel's bestseller list in 2008. Her books have sold over 250 000 copies worldwide.

She sometimes writes for Vogue and teaches life-writing classes. She is also a motivational speaker and has worked to raise money for abused women, breast cancer research, post-natal depression and children with special needs.

She lives in Sydney with her husband and two children, and spends a lot of time walking, reading and cooking.
