Editorial Reviews

Review

"Ginger Clarkson is an expressive and talented writer who touches us emotionally and instructs us intellectually to open our minds to those of the autistic. From her twenty-five years experience in treating autism she demonstrates through intimate portraits of three of her clients the capacity music has to break down barriers, and uncover a vast and beautiful inner world." -- Helen L. Bonny, Author-Music and Your Mind

"Ginger Clarkson leads us on an evocative and inspiring unfoldment of the mind, spirit, and soul through the powers of music therapy, imagery, and mindfulness. Don't miss the quests of three brave young people with autism." -- Don Campbell, Author The Mozart Effect

"In this extraordinary new work, Ginger Clarkson takes the reader on an enthralling journey into the silent, hidden, largely unexplored land of autism. I recommend I Dreamed I Was Normal without reservation, for it is a loving book, one brimming with insight and compassion." -- Maggie Scarf, Author

"This is a book of extraordinary possibilities, a book of listening with the heart, of seeing with the soul. It offers a remarkable understanding of autism and a radical vision of the love and blessings we can bring to one another on this earth." --Jack Kornfield, Author-A Path With Heart

5.0 out of 5 stars "I Dreamed I Was Normal" expands understanding of autism, May 1, 2000
This review is from: I Dreamed I Was Normal - A Music Therapist's Journey (Paperback)
As the teacher of 7 students with autism, I was facinated bythis book. The three charachers the music therapist focuses upon aredelightful. The writing changes all preconceived notions regarding autism and mental retardation, enabling the reader to understand and accept the clients as PEOPLE rather than "retarded". The ideas about reincarnation and autistic people requesting from God that they be autistic in this life are a bit far-fetched. However, the book will be very encouraging and soothing for the parents of autistic people to read. I recommend it for family members, teachers, care workers, etc. of people with autism.
