Book Description

August 18, 2009
MacKayla Lane lies naked on the cold stone floor of a church, at the mercy of the erotic Fae master she once swore to kill. Far from home, unable to control her sexual hungers, MacKayla is now fully under the Lord Master’s spell.…In New York Times bestselling author Karen Marie Moning’s stunning new novel, the walls between human and Fae worlds have come crashing down. And as Mac fights for survival on Dublin’s battle-scarred streets, she will embark on the darkest—and most erotically charged—adventure of her life.

He has stolen her past, but MacKayla will never allow her sister’s murderer to take her future. Yet even the uniquely gifted sidhe-seer is no match for the Lord Master, who has unleashed an insatiable sexual craving that consumes Mac’s every thought—and thrusts her into the seductive realm of two very dangerous men, both of whom she desires but dares not trust.

As the enigmatic Jericho Barrons and the sensual Fae prince V’lane vie for her body and soul, as cryptic entries from her sister’s diary mysteriously appear and the power of the Dark Book weaves its annihilating path through the city, Mac’s greatest enemy delivers a final challenge.…

It’s an invitation Mac cannot refuse, one that sends her racing home to Georgia, where an even darker threat awaits. With her parents missing and the lives of her loved ones under siege, Mac is about to come face-to-face with a soul-shattering truth—about herself and her sister, about Jericho Barrons…and about the world she thought she knew.

4.0 out of 5 stars Page turner as usual BUT... August 24, 2009
Format:Hardcover
Okay, I love, love, love any work by Karen Marie Moning. I think she has a gift for creating enthralling, sexy page turners and I'm completely addicted to the Fever series. I was desperate for each and every novel's release and I devoured DreamFever in a little over 6 hours... BUT, the unanswered questions and cliff hangers are getting - nope, scratch that, ARE - tiresome. I felt the same way after Faefever and it's only been amplified by the unsatisfactory ending of Dreamfever. I realized that, once again, questions that were initiated in Book 1 are still NOT resolved in Book 4 and [naturally] we get some NEW questions. If I were a man, I'd say Karen is pretty adept at giving me an extreme case of literary blue balls. I felt sort of betrayed and tired at the end of DreamFever - I'm dying to know the official status of Jericho and Mac's relationship [and I agree with another poster - I don't care what he did or what kind of monster he is - I want them to wind up together soo badly - with maybe 1 little detour in V'Lane's bed before their HEA, lol]. I'm tired of books where it ends with Mac in a horrid situation and you don't know who's going to rescue her - hopefully herself for once. All that aside, though, the book is a fun, quick read and leaves you parched for more. Mac is developing into an even better kick a$$ character although I wonder if she strays a little too far to the dark side... there were some virtues to pink Mac I think. Much to the publisher's delight, I'll definitely buy the next book, but I wish I'd never laid eyes on this series until all 5 cursed books were on the shelves. I'm also a shade dubious about Karen cramming and resolving everything neatly in this 5th book since she didn't do it in 4.... Read more ›

2.0 out of 5 stars Little progress, lots of repetition. August 26, 2009
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
First off, I love Karen Marie Moning's books for the most part. All except the last two. I loved all of her earlier books because they were new, well-paced, humorous, mystical, romantic and just plain fantastic. When I started reading the Fever series I was surprised at her turn to the dark side of the Fae, but I trustingly went along for the ride.
Books one and two were new for me (I rarely read dark-themed books) but once I got used to that I thought they were pretty good. In the last two books however, things seem to have gotten very repetitive. Mac has gone from perfectly matched, polished, beautiful, and blonde in pink and rainbows to lean, jagged, scruffy, rough and now Mac in black...got it already, can we move on now? There are more monsters in the Unseelie world than will ever be known, and they all keep getting more and more horrific. Again, got it...over and over and over again. Can we move on here also?
She still hasn't gotten answers regarding Barrons, V'lane, the Sinsar Dubh, her own place as a player on the board etc. Nothing really seems to have progressed at all in the last two books. She still in the same dilemma, going in the same direction, dealing with the same major issues and still in the same dark as usual. The author just keeps changing the physical locations and the appearances of the monsters. The story just doesn't seem to be developing and growing anymore. Enough already. I just want to get to the end.
I think this story would have been way better if it had been kept to 3 books at most. I will be far more cautious about investing in future series by Ms Moning. Sadly, this one is becoming very long, disappointing and expensive.

When I first read Darkfever I was stunned at how much it differed from KMM's Highlander series. It wasn't a single volume romance. It was in first person. WTH happened? My initial shock preceded my appreciation of the story. I reread it. I loved it. By the second book we see a dynamic change in Mac as a character. She goes from being a barbie, too stupid to live almost, to being strong. To being extremely interesting. To being a character that women could look up to.

Dreamfever picks up from where Faefever leaves off. Mac is at the worst place in her life one could be. When she is able to get back into the fight, she really does. Gone is the barbie doll of the past for good, now she is a living weapon seeking revenge.

So what if her story takes 5 books rather than 1. Would you rather have a huge story condensed into one book and lose half the dynamics of the character changes? Or would you rather have the complete and total story?

Questions are being answered, leaving just enough left over (plus a few new ones) to be answered in the final book. No the books are not Harry Potter, nor do they try to be. Karen Marie Moning is a brilliant woman with incredible talent for story telling. Dreamfever is probably the best in the series, with each book getting better than the last. I am not going to give away plot details in this review as I feel it takes away from the reading experience. But let it be said that the story will grip you, and when you reach the final page you will be ready for more!

5.0 out of 5 stars Karen....PLEASE August 19, 2009
Format:Hardcover
Karen!! Please don't make us wait upwards of a year again! I don't know how you as the author can stand not to tell us this story faster! I love it all...but faster, faster, faster!! I'm groveling at your feet, begging you to stop this torment!

Yes it's taking Mac time to evolve, if it didn't I would wonder how complete and sincere her change is. Very few things in life cause an immediate about face that lasts.

I do find it annoying that we can't get into JZB's head the way we could the Highlanders. However, actions speak louder than words and Barron's actions tell me all I need to know about his feelings for Mac. I can't wait to find out the nitty gritty on him, I don't care what kind of monster he's been in the past!

I'm wondering at this point about V'lane...is he okay? Is his attitude really changing about humans? Is his kindness and fascination with Mac only about the power she's coming into and who she will be? Or does he have real feelings for her?

Christian seems to be on a major path to trial by fire that will toughen him up getting him ready to be a major player in a future series!

Barrons
I think Barrons might be Circenn Brodie from Moning's The Highlander's Touch.
1. He's half fae and has knowledge and abilities reguarding magic
2. He is described as Pict
3. He matches the discription of Barrons
4. He guards ancient Fae relics
5. They have similar mannerisms
I don't know if he... Read more

Nice to hear that Susiq! ;D I haven't read the book yet, but I've heard that we find out more about Barron's mysterious past. Apparently there are still a lot of unanswered questions, but I'll take whatever I can get!

P.S. I've also heard that Dreamfever has a real cliffhanger of an ending. I... Read more

Who was the Monster that Mac killed? any opinons or guesses?
I think it was Barrons. Cus Ryodan was fighting the beast. He can't be in two places at once. I think Barrons and Ryodan are all cursed or something and they can either all be "beasts" or each one has a particular curse. But since Ryodan knew it was Barrons, he didn't want to fight... Read more

No Rowling, and definitely no Tolkien
Like Lester, I saw this thread and debated about posting to it.

I think the comparisons are apt. They are all writing fantasy, albeit Moning's is targeted to women where both Tolkien and Rowling have much wider audiences. As far as Meyers goes, it is all too easy to dismiss her fan base as... Read more
