This review is from: Dreamgates: An Explorer's Guide to the Worlds of Soul, Imagination, and Life Beyond Death (Paperback)
DREAMGATES is the marvelous new "explorer's guide to the worlds of soul, imagination, and life beyond death." One of the earliest definitions of a "dreamgate" is a "hole left in the steeple of a church to admit light," a wonderful metaphor of the physical and spiritual. The old form of the word "gate" referred to a "hole," and later to a "removeable barrier," words that could easily become metaphors for a dreamer's maturing beyond the simple dreaming of unexplored images, to the recording and exploring of the visible and invisible realities of their individual dream experiences, the admission of light, the removing of barriers that prevent us from understanding our dream images.

In his book DREAMGATES, Robert Moss guides his readers, through individual and group exploration, into the very personal meanings of their dream images and leaves his readers with the confidence to continue working with their dream imagery until they are familiar with their own dream landscape. The dream explorer can then use their dreams to work with current and past experiences, some brought with them to prepare them for destinies chosen before birth--memories so fragile that they come and go with a word or action or supposed chance meeting--some given for the better understanding of the most painful or most joyful parts of their psyche; some presented to assist the dreamer or those close to the dreamer with death and beyond, through the mesmerizing overlays of dream experiences that take each of us back and forth through the multiple layers of realities that make up our spiritual and physical bodies. The dreamer will learn when to open themselves to help others, how to contact higher entities and explore their higher selves and when to protect themselves against confused and dangerous entities that might enter unbidden or be unwittingly invited.

Creative exercises abound in this book and assist the dreamer in special journeys of self-discovery that are des! igned to allow the dreamer entrance into the advanced exploration and incubation of dream query and dream problem-solving. For the truly advanced explorers DREAMGATES will lead them to the exciting "5-D Vision" of "hyperdimensional space," a multi-dimensional world that can be experienced by each one of us through awareness and dream exploration.

Take the trip with Robert Moss in DREAMGATES and learn to fly with new wings, to see with new eyes, and to discover your own unique path to other worlds.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Book of Wonders!, April 10, 2003
By

This review is from: Dreamgates: An Explorer's Guide to the Worlds of Soul, Imagination, and Life Beyond Death (Paperback)
I have been interested in dreams for decades, and in that time have read many books on the subject. By comparison with other popular books on dreams, Robert Moss's books are singular in breadth and depth of subject range, readability, and usefullness of the exercises presented to the reader. Moss takes the reader through an exploration of known dream territories and further, to the exciting outside edge of dream possibilities. He cites historical and cultural information to show that many of these concepts are not new, but have been practiced since ancient times. The wealth of information in this book is invaluable. Moss knows that there are many kinds of dreams, and many ways of dreaming. Dreaming is an education and an adventure, and Moss's books are wonderful guides for both the casually curious and the seasoned dream explorer. (I also highly recommend both Conscious Dreaming and Dreaming True by Robert Moss. Conscious Dreaming would be an excellent place for someone new to dream study to begin their explorations.)

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful invitation to stretch your imagination!, September 6, 1999
This review is from: Dreamgates: An Explorer's Guide to the Worlds of Soul, Imagination, and Life Beyond Death (Paperback)
Robert Moss writes: "You are born to fly, and in dreams you remember the soul has wings." Well, here is a flight manual filled with stories and the dreams of frequent fliers.

There are lots of exercises and visualizations that I have found personally helpful. I have used the exercises in this book to visualize my way to a "personal dream library" and to a "house of time", to affirm my creativity and to seek guidance in the dreaming. I have used the exercises in this book when leading workshops. The beautiful meditations on the heart, the weighing of the heart, and on behalf of the dying have all facilitated healing for participants in my workshops.

This book is readable and filled with wonderful anecdotes and personal experiences of dreamers. It includes deep appreciation for the many ways in which spirituality is expressed through shamanic experiences and religious traditions. I also like the extensive notes and the bibliography which includes both popular and scholarly works.

5.0 out of 5 stars Learning to Fly, April 8, 2003

This review is from: Dreamgates: An Explorer's Guide to the Worlds of Soul, Imagination, and Life Beyond Death (Paperback)
I found myself saying "Yes! Yes! Yes!" page after page, as if this book had been written just for me. Although I was familiar with many of the underlying concepts presented, Robert Moss pulled it all together in a new dynamic way that was immediately helpful to me. None of the other many books I have read about dreaming had the thread of genius and promise that runs through this one.
True, this is a practical recipe book for dream work--but its entertaining and simple presentation veils its often profound power. The techniques expand on ever deeper levels for those who find that dreams can be a vehicle for an ongoing spiritual journey. We all take what we can, and I like to think I will never reach the end. This book tells you there is no end.
For those who cry "Mysticism!" I would say that I don't give labels much attention. If a technique works, and it is beautiful and enriching to my life, I don't care what quickie sticky label is pasted onto it. "A rose by any other name shall smell as sweet." The man who wrote that line knew alot about dreams.
This book is self-proving. Give it even half a real chance and it will change your life. Trust me, you CAN fly over the walls of your cubicle!

5.0 out of 5 stars Navigating the hidden worlds of the Dreamscape, April 2, 2003
By

This review is from: Dreamgates: An Explorer's Guide to the Worlds of Soul, Imagination, and Life Beyond Death (Paperback)
As a newbie to lucid dreaming, I skimmed over 30 books before finding the truest and most compelling framework for understanding my dreaming experiences in the writings of Robert Moss. This gem of a book stands out as thoughtful and thought-provoking body of work that sets the individual dreamer squarely in charge of his/her own experiences in the dreamscapes. In comparison, I've found many other books on the subject that seem trite or simplistic. While lucid dreaming is a birthright for everyone, taking along a knowledgeable and reassuring guide such as Robert Moss adds context, depth and meaning to those experiences.

Dreamgates provides the reader with suggestions and practices for navigating within the dreamscape. Moss suggests possible locales within the dreaming realities to visit and explore - places that have been charted over the centuries by well-known dreamers such as Robert Louis Stevenson, William Blake, and Carl Jung. In addition, Dreamgates gently suggests that if or when we encounter others within the dreamscape, we should stay with the experience and enter into dialogue to understand the meaning of the encounter. That in and of itself is worth the cover price.

This book is a must read for anyone who dreams, or dreams about dreaming. It is Moss' second book on dreaming, building on the concepts and practices of his foundational work: "Conscious Dreaming," which I also highly recommend.

Robert Moss has given us his beautiful expression of profound and limitless dimensions of creative dream work and its possibilities. This book has helped me to realize the perceptual gift of creativity in poetry, prose and in painting and seing as my waking life is awakening to souls purpose. Great help in my own healing has happened as I have allowed the corridors of my perception to be viewed most clearly from his chapters on Wings of Shaman and Creative Journeys and Healings.

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly impacting book!, January 12, 2006
This review is from: Dreamgates: An Explorer's Guide to the Worlds of Soul, Imagination, and Life Beyond Death (Paperback)
Not only is this book an entirely fascinating read - the type you breeze through - but the simple, clear guidelines make it seem natural to take on board the tools and knowledge in this book.

I rank this as one of the very few books in the category of "most life-changing book". Instant results, multitudes of possibilities opened up, challenging and thought-provoking reading, and nourishment for the soul are what I got out of this book, to say the least. Most of all, the exercises and knowledge presented in this book have greatly accelerated and enriched my dream life, enabling me to understand and work with them more successfully. A serious MUST for anyone keen to explore the realms beyond and within, and for anyone wanting to create a better reality for themselves.

5.0 out of 5 stars Now This is Real Exploration, August 28, 2007

This review is from: Dreamgates: An Explorer's Guide to the Worlds of Soul, Imagination, and Life Beyond Death (Paperback)
I began with Robert Moss's Conscious Dreaming and graduated to Dreamgates. This book is full of insight into the worlds we can access beyond our daily waking reality, both in night dreams and by consciously entering into these realms. By practicing Robert's Active Dreaming techniques and by exploring the journeys presented in this book, we can become familiar with our own dream locales, which are personal sources of healing, inspiration and adventure. And we can travel with others on group dreams to heal ourselves and our planet. We can reenter the dreams we puzzle over and learn more. The fun begins with awareness and intent. Life can be so much more than the mundane. All we have to do is decide to go there.

1.0 out of 5 stars Going beyon analysing dreams, March 13, 2006
This review is from: Dreamgates: An Explorer's Guide to the Worlds of Soul, Imagination, and Life Beyond Death (Paperback)
I came to this book through a DVD on Carlos Castaneda where Robert Moss does a comentary on dreaming. This book does a good job of expalaining the mysteries of the astral plane better perhaps than any other book I have read. While many of us are not advanced enough to perform some of the magic involved in becoming a "frequent flyer" the author does an excellent job of describing these mysteries in terms that a layman can understand. If you like Castaneda you will like Rober Moss.
