Former Ladies Soar - Others faulter, July 12, 2007

I would give this set 5 stars were The Former Ladies of The Supremes the only artists on it. Sadly, they are not. The FLO's songs (including Scherrie Payne solos) are fantasic. Harmonies are tight. Leads are crystal clear. Mixes, while a tad on the robotic side, are not over-bearing or hard to tolerate. Sadly, the other artists do not reach the same plateau. Even Lynda Laurence, who is a member of the FLO's, falls flat on her solo of "I Am Changing." (Possibly, the problem with that particular song is more the awful arrangement than Ms. Laurence's vocals.) This set is a mixed bag. It's a shame that The FLO's weren't allowed to record their own entire album of Dreamgirls songs, with decent arrangements. It would have been much better than this compilation.
