5.0 out of 5 stars refreshingly real
Lucero tells it like it is and this documentary captures the essence of the band. It is a great portrayal of a band that is working hard (touring 250 days a year) to realize their dream of making music.

3.0 out of 5 stars Hope, dreams and a sure lack of glory
I am a biased reviewer. The filmaker was a student of mine. That being said the film and the band are everything I want in a movie. It is not fomulaic. It is not sensationalized. It is a truth that many of us share in our own lives. We all try to be a hero (or should) in our own small way and Lucero, the band certainly does that. They do what they do because it IS...

They do what they do because it IS what they do. The same goes for this film. This will not make anyone rich. It will not attract Leonardo DeCaprio, however both the band and the movie are worth more than most Amerian commercial films. I enjoy feeling good about life. I enjoy feeling like there is a point to what I do. This movie moves us all closer to a life that has meaning. I want the best for Lucero, a chance to keep playing music for as long as they want. Bravo Mr. Goldman!

This is a great look into the constant touring life of one of my favorite bands, Lucero. The amazingly authentic footage of their live performances really gives a great perspective on lead singer Ben Nichols. The great music is a huge plus.

I don't know why it took me so long to purchase this dvd. I have been listening and seeing Lucero play around the country since 2002. It is a definite must have if you like the band or Ben Nichols.

3.0 out of 5 stars An Unwilling Undercut, October 14, 2005

Glancing over one's shoulder, the DVD reminder that Nobody's Darlings slipped below the mark that Lucero had maintained, somehow this isn't auspicious. Don't mistake my intentions, I bought the DVD because I love the band. the parallel symbolism of Wilco's tribulations with Warner rings hallow in this instance. The film does capture the energy of a live show and Brian's growl. The band appears whip smart throughout. if only the circumstances were changed.
